To think it's unfair (argos card)

My cooker broke a few months back and I can't afford a new one out right. Aibu in thinking it's unfair that I can't have an argos card as I'm not working? Surely people not working need it more? I could pay it off as I used my sisters for £700 and I paid it off on time ( wouldn't ask again though)

I don't know anyone that drives, only my sister and she would never have it in her car.

I haven't saved anything as I'm rubbish at saving tbh. It's easier for me to pay something off as I always dip into savings otherwise. I will take a look at the mini ovens thanks.

You would still need to pay for cooker to be fitted if you bought from Argos. Go on Freecycle and request a cooker - you don't need to wait for one to come up and go too fast before you can respond. A man with a van would deliver for £20 locally.

Why pay interest on an Argos card, utter rip off. Have a look at Martin Lewis website, you will learn a lot about managing finances

Thanks blank face will take a look now.

I had a sofa collected off eBay and was charged £70! So I assumed men with vans were very expensive as they always say round here x amount per hour but minimum of 2 hours for all jobs. so you have to pay for 2 hours.

Or a mini oven with grill and hot plates. I used one of these (different model) for about six months when we were having our house renovated. I fed a family of 5. You can roast, do stews, fry.... anything really. I used to cook more simply than usual but I got used to it.

Oh that looks great thanks!

My grandma cooks everything using her microwave on the oven setting! I can see why it's a pain in the ass for you though, I'm sorry.

Do you have a slow cooker? If not, you should get one! Everybody should own one really, they're brilliant.

thepumpk1neater · 06/08/2017 01:59

A slow cooker is cheap and you can cook a lot in them, even roast whole chicken (see the many threads on here about slow cookers). Might do in the short term

RebeccaCloud9 · 06/08/2017 02:07

Isn't this the situation that Bright House was made for?

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 06/08/2017 02:11

Have you considered a budgeting loan? This is exactly what they are there for.

thepumpk1neater · 06/08/2017 02:15

Does she want to go near somewhere like Bright House though.

MinorRSole · 06/08/2017 02:23

Slow cooker and electric steamer would cover all you need. Saw someone mention the halogen cookers though and I know my mum has one she raves about.
I use my electric steamer for loads and think it only cost me about £20. They are brilliant

AlmostAJillSandwich · 06/08/2017 02:34

Have you tried vanquis? Im unemployed on disability but got a credit card. Its about 38% apr though.

luctob1 · 06/08/2017 03:10

the electric hot plates are great, or even some sort of freestanding grill might even be an option to get you through.

I assume it's a gas unit you're replacing? I actually haven't got a clue about installation but could you look at an electric or induction hob?.... then possibly you could look to jut get the gas capped and it might be cheaper?

Cocklodger · 06/08/2017 03:20

I bought this for my little sister when she was in your situation.
m.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCOTTS-CO-Mini-Oven-with-Two-ring-Hob-26L-1889815-/332135782770?hash=item4d54d5d972%3Ag%3AyIEAAOSwWxNYrhni&_trkparms=pageci%253A82fc69c3-7a4d-11e7-acac-74dbd1800ed5%257Cparentrq%253Ab556009315d0a866dd6b87e5ffffce11%257Ciid%253A6
You can get them from lots of places and they range in price from about 40-80 pounds, require no professional fitting and can do everything a normal oven can do.
Don't get me wrong you won't be feeding the 5000 at a dinner party anytime soon but it's perfectly sufficient for a small family and you can cook pretty much everything in it.

Cocklodger · 06/08/2017 03:21

It's likely cheaper than a months repayment to Argos would be anyway

whiteskyblueclouds · 06/08/2017 04:03

How about one of these?

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2417880.htm

And one of these?

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6045980.htm

Not as ideal as a normal oven/hob I know but it would be better than nothing at all!

Check Facebook market place. Or ask on your local village/town if any one is selling one? People sell things cheap all the time to get rid of then

Uniformuniformuniform · 17/09/2019 10:52

Yes or try brighthouse

AussieBeauty · 17/09/2019 10:57
