To think my landlord is taking the piss?

We came home from holiday today to a letter from the letting agent saying that the landlord had contacted them and asked them to write to us to make sure we are maintaining the garden well.

So they are now asking us to send a photo of our garden to show the landlord.

I'm actually really angry about this, we have lived here for less than 2 months, and I feel that it's really intrusive. We will likely do it, but isn't it really cheeky for them to ask us to do this? I've rented for 21 years and this is a new one on me!

Another suggestion for you to send!

That ridiculous, as long as the garden is in the same condition when you leave as it was when you started renting then that's all they need to see. And if you were to leave it in a mess when you go they could apply to take some of your deposit to pay to put it right, the same as they could for inside the house.

You're required to keep both the house and the garden in a reasonable condition, they or their agent can inspect it to see if you do that when they come for their regular inspection.

I'd ignore it, or as pp said, they'll start wanting regular photos of everything.

Thanks pigs, I don't know whether to ignore it or call the agents and let them know we won't be sending pictures but if they want then they can do an inspection.

Actually, thinking about it, probably better not to just ignore it. You're right, give the agent a call and let them inspect if they want. Photos, indeed!

Maybe you've misunderstood and it's your holiday snaps they want to see. :)
