What I'm saying, though, Cailleach is that it's unreasonable of her to laugh because you hadn't heard of it. I don't think it's mainstream enough for that. It's not like you didn't know who Justin Beiber was. Is work with teenagers in a role which means I hear a lot of their internet based fads. I've never heard of it. Most others on the thread (who'd are parents) haven't. I think she's wrong to think it's laughable that you haven't, that's all.

Think your age group? Or your social circle? Two different things. My DD is 21 and it's never been mentioned here.

is it similar to ASMR videos, some people enjoy listening and watching people eat as they find it relaxes them and gives them 'brain tingles'. I enjoy listening to people eating apples and crisps, not so much watching, just the eating noises..lol

Yes some people who make ASMR videos also do mukbang. I find it horrible and never watch them, though I like other ASMR stuff.

I'm in the too-old-to-know-what-it-is camp, but a few weeks ago I stumbled across these "Mukbangs" and I'm ashamed to admit I actually love watching them 🙈

I love ASMR. But just watched a couple of the mukbang videos and find them very odd. To be honest (and I say this as a person who eats a fair amount and is obese) I find it pretty disgusting to gorge like that and it be seen as some kind of admirable thing. Some of them are eating 30000 cals in one sitting! It's pretty dangerous surely - imagine the acid reflux!

I've just realised someone was talking about Trisha Paytas - I watch her mukbangs 😂 I actually love her, her life is such a train wreck it makes me feel not so alone 🙈

Yeah I just googled her and watched one...a pizza by one she has red red like 6 boxes of pizza and pasta too and breadsticks and dessert... she ate maybe 3 slices of pizza,a few mouthfuls of pasta and a breadstick and a mouthful of dessert. A decent sized meal but by no means 'disgusting' or even anything to watch?! I don't get it at all?? My DH isn't overweight,he's a normal bloke with fairly average activity levels and he'd eat WAY more than that in a blowout takeaway order!

I didn't know what it was until I had to edit a short story about it. Apparently part of the appeal for some people is to watch these videos when they are having their own tea, if they live alone - it feels more sociable to see someone else eating and chatting.
