Our last dog died. I vowed never again. Now I am wavering. I miss the walks and social contact with people.

Or often even one mile, if it comes to it! Grin

Grey hounds don't need much exercise contrary to popular belief - they obviously need some, but are happy on the sofa! 😊

I know what you mean though - my mutt is nearly 12 and she came to us quite accidentally. I can't imagine life without her now, but in the cold dark pissing rain when she wants to go for a long walk...

Having said that - I love those walks most of the time - I have a wee rucksack with a couple of books of trees and birds Blush and spend it investigating leaves and flappy things. I meet loads of nice people, can pick out badger setts , and love following the seasons (like rain!) and noticing how far along the barley is..

She sleeps on my bed and can reduce a 'hands off ' 6 foot teenager into someone babytalking, consoling and confiding in the dog.

She is truly part of the family, and when she farts like chemical warfare, empties the bin, and rolls in dead stuff - it's still worthwhile. Hmm Grin

If you want a lazy dog don't get a greyhound/whippet/border collie cross Ike my two, they'll walk all day and night. I adore them.

Our gorgeous cocker spaniel is part of our family. We love him! Walks, cuddles, training to start with....but calling his name across the field and then seeing him look up and run towards you is magical. Do it soon!

As others have said oP you can find cat friendly greys, any good rescue will be able o point out ones that may have been in foster homes with cats so have been tested as it were. They really are such gentle giants and have such horrible lives racing that it's so rewarding to give them a loving home away from the track and watch them come out of their shells 😊

Do it! Just think of the daft doggy greetings you'll get every time you come home, nothing beats that Grin

We lost our pug back in March. I adored that dog. She was only 5, she had an autoimmune condition. She fought valiantly for a year but we had to end it, she was just too poorly. I miss her terribly. It's awful losing a much loved animal companion.

YANBU, if you feel it's time, then it's time. Go get you a new friend and enjoy them.
