To want to wear makeup

Onlythehorses · 04/08/2017 17:22

I do wear foundation and mascara. But I'd like to experiment with blusher and lipstick and eyeshadow.

My mouth in particular is tiny so i look ridiculous.

Can anyone else not wear much?

I feel the same! Or I really like it and then I look back at pictures and cringe because I don't suit a full face Sad if it makes you happy though, go ahead!

Onlythehorses · 04/08/2017 17:28

It doesnt make me happy when I look like a clown ...

Is it that you don't know how to apply to suit you or that you simply don't shit make up

Coconutspongexo · 04/08/2017 17:30

Suit* I hope you don't shit make up

NotTheFordType · 04/08/2017 17:33

I only do eye shadow and lipstick, I don't "do" foundation. When I've tried to put a "full face" on I've felt really unnatural and uncomfortable.

Can you have a look for some YouTube videos - search for what you want to achieve e.g. "natural daytime look makeup" - then give it a try (although using cheap brands in case you don't like it - Superdrug is your friend for cheap makeup!)

Onlythehorses · 04/08/2017 17:35

I reaĺly dont suit it! I think my mouth is too smaĺl.

I wear full face to work everyday but I think I look natural. Key is to go for day look, lighter type foundation or bb cream, I use those that are not full cover, for lipstick dont use harsh dark color, maybe a shimmering light pink or brown? And same with blusher, apply just a bit. I use Nars orgasm, it is not very obvious and so pretty.

madja · 04/08/2017 17:40

Have you tried going to a make-up counter and getting them to suggest products and ideas for you? I think some will give you a free make over if you ask. I did this when I got married, and I'm much more comfortable with what suits and how to use it now. Even though I go for the nude look, so it doesn't really look as if I am wearing any really!

VladmirsPoutine · 04/08/2017 17:41

I think this is key. A bit like going from a Ford Fiesta to a Lamborghini. Small, inoffensive and does the job vs going all out and looking ridiculous.

I'd suggest you experiment when at home and have no-where to be. Take some photos and refine, refine, refine.

Onlythehorses · 04/08/2017 17:43

When someone put blusher on me eveb dh noticed and said it was too much!

I don't suit lots of make up either. I look like a drag queen.

I do like to play with make up though so experiment with different natural looks. I use concealer, foundation, highlighters, blush for pale skin and coppery colour eye pencils to give a faint colour along my lashes.
Different products give different effects so it's worth having a play about until you find something that suits.

MagicMojito · 04/08/2017 18:24

Get a good quality nude lip liner and just go on the very edge just beyond your natural lip line, fill it in with desired shade and it really will make the world of difference. That and a good eyebrow Smile

Cellardoor23 · 04/08/2017 18:30

I'm quite minimal with my makeup. I wear blusher and a bit concealer (if I have a blemish) But apart from that, that's it really. I feel over done if I wear mascara or foundation. I don't wear lipstick either for the same reason.

I'm quite pale too, so I don't think I need a lot to look like I have makeup on.

Namechangetempissue · 04/08/2017 18:34

I don't really suit lipsticks -or I just haven't found the right one. I don't actually like the feel of it on my lips anyway so tend to just use balm and leave them natural. I do love make up -I wear eyeshadow and liner, mascara, powder and blush and I fill in my eyebrows which have become a little sparse in places (not with the thick black sharpie look though!).

Genghi · 04/08/2017 18:36

What do you mean by small mouth? Thin lips or blowupdoll mouth lol? If the former red or another bright colour would look amazing. If the later maybe try nude lipstick with a white highlighter at to slightly increase the width of your mouth.

stevie69 · 04/08/2017 18:37

Can anyone else not wear much?

I'm not quite sure I understand the question here. I would imagine we can all wear as much, or as little, as we choose.

I don't wear any. Whether I look better with is a matter of opinion, I guess. However ... I can't see myself so I don't actually care Blush

I've heard that advice lots of times, but honestly, I can always see when people have done it and it looks bad

NotTheCoolMum · 04/08/2017 18:41

Just wear a natural colour lip tint with a subtle bit of lip balm or gloss over the top. A colour that is basically your natural lip colour. I also have a small mouth and lipstick just looks ridiculous on me. I put effort into my eyes, eyebrows and also a bit of blusher.

I've found make up counter make overs always apply way too much make up / too extreme even when I have asked for a natural look.

Suggest youtube, follow a few tutorials in an evening and see what you like. I quite like Sonia Gasparian.

MagicMojito · 04/08/2017 18:44

That's why it's best to get matched at one of the counters. People for some bizarre reason tend to go for darker really defined pencils that are super noticeable. The trick is to get as close a colour as possible to your natural lip and blend inward with a brush. I have a tiny, thin top lip but you'd never know Wink

These lip tints are nice and subtle.

Best advice I got with lips is the "right" shade will make your teeth look whiter. A "wrong" shade will make your teeth look yellowy and horrid. Pretty impossible to determine inside a shop, daylight is required.

happydays00 · 04/08/2017 18:46

Head thee to Charlotte tilbury's website and follow her tutorials

EnidButton · 04/08/2017 18:56

Tinted lip gloss or balm if you'd like some lip colour. For blusher, something subtle like Benefit Dandelion powder might be a good place to start.

Although you didn't say your skin colour. I have pale white cool toned skin and Dandelion suits me although I use deeper blushes now, it's nice used to brighten the skin.

If you would like make up suggestions you could try posting on Style & Beauty too. (There are posters there who are excellent at giving tips and suggesting products who I don't see on chat or aibu)

Lisa Eldridge has made some very easy to follow tutorials for natural looking make up and she has videos and blog posts where she suggests products. She's very good for more subtle stuff rather than contouring etc.

SleepingBooty · 04/08/2017 18:56

I wear make up everyday but wear very little. I don't like foundation, it's too much for me but mineral powder is fine. I prefer Bronzer to blusher as I'm an Autumn and browns are better than pinks for me. I like a subtle eyeliner, green or brown. A light eyeshadow, subtle eyebrow pencil, eyelash curl and mascara and a few shades of lipstick from nude to bright coral which depend on my mood.

EnidButton · 04/08/2017 18:58

^ not that there aren't posters here who can't give good tips and suggestions.
