Coil

I had the coil fitted (1st ever 1) in June and have had continuous bleeding and horrible scratching feeling.

I told my gp who checked me and sent a request for a scan which i had today. The coil has slipped down into my cervix so will need removing and replacing.

When it was inserted it was very painful so aibu to ask them to do this under a GA?

I'm not sure if they do these under a general, maybe a local.
It wouldn't hurt to ask if they offer something to help I suppose.
You can try taking some paracetamol just before you go for insertion, that's what I did.
My first ever coil insertion was horrendous and I passed out, but I've had a 2nd since then and it was much better, having someone who does them regularly is benefical

They are not going to give you a general without good medical grounds. Sorry

MrsG841 · 04/08/2017 16:42

Theres is the option of GA as they do it at my work (i unfortunately will not be able to get it done there as my hospital is not licensed to insert coils for contraceptive purposes)

But it's not an option in the sense that women are offered it as a choice?

TeenAndTween · 04/08/2017 16:45

I had a coil & smear under GA.
I was told that I could have it removed when needed under GA too.

PolarisStar · 04/08/2017 16:51

YABU to expect a GA. The NHS is on its arse.

Elledouble · 04/08/2017 16:54

When mine tried to escape the GP whipped it straight out and it didn't hurt at all.

The insertion of the replacement one did though, unfortunately. But not unbearably so. If you can only bear to have it done under GA maybe it's not the contraception for you.

Migraleve · 04/08/2017 16:57

had a coil & smear under GA.

Have you deliberately omitted the reason? As it really isn't a standard option.

peachgreen · 04/08/2017 17:41

Mine was absolute agony going in, to the point where the first attempt failed and I had to have it done with LA on another occasion - but I didn't feel a THING when it came out. Like - I literally didn't realised they'd done it. It's honestly not anywhere near as bad. Don't put your body under the stress of a GA for nothing.

peachgreen · 04/08/2017 17:42

Oh just realised you're having a replacement. Just get a local - it was fine when I had a local. (Hated the cool though, such pain and bleeding!)

TeenAndTween · 04/08/2017 17:54

Migra Not deliberately omitted reason, just didn't put it. Coil done for stopping 6 months solid bleeding; IVF trauma build-up meaning I just cant do normal smear tests etc.
