I'm not sure if royal Victoria has a lift, but custom house station does, and is about 200 yards from RV so could go an extra stop.

oldtrees · 04/08/2017 12:44

There's a tube map you can get with access info on it, have you seen it?

HighlyUnlikely · 04/08/2017 12:47

Look at the tube map, stations with disabled access have a wheelchair symbols next to them.

I know that Stratford and Royal Victoria would be ok, no experience of Redbridge though.

oldtrees · 04/08/2017 12:54

The avoiding stairs map still has escallators IIRC.

There's alse this:

Step-free guide to the tube

Which I think has wheelchair info on it. (Hard to tell on this screen!)

oldtrees · 04/08/2017 12:55

Yes, I think it is the step free one you want - it has a picture of a wheel chair and a person with a buggy on the cover.

Worse to the worse call the station and speak to the station manager or similar as they'd know for their respective stations.

DandelionAndBedrock · 04/08/2017 13:00

Stratford and Canning Town both have lifts if that helps you Smile.

jay55 · 04/08/2017 13:03

Do a journey plan and put in full step free access and remove buses as an option.
Most DLR stations have lifts and are straightforward. I think Redbridge will be the issue.

Redbridge is going to be an issue. You can see from the avoiding stair map that AlcoholicsUnanimous posted that it doesn't even have escalators - you need to use stairs to get out.

The two nearest stations on either side have escalators but no step-free way to access the tube.

I guess your best bet is to get a bus or a tube to the nearest station with access - although the ones round there have "restricted access" e.g. only one platfomr has access, so it's a bit confusing!

Your best best is to ring TFL. It's years since I rang them but I used to find them ever so helpful.

In my teens and 20s we'd go out to parties in warehouses all over London in areas we didn't know well. In the morning I'd always rely on this number to get me home! I'd ring them up, say I'm on and I want to get home to and they'd tell me the best route. A great service!

If you ring them, if they still offer the same kind of service I'm sure they'll help.

There is a great app called Mumderground designed for mums with buggies and it tells you exactly how many stairs at each station. I use it in conjunction with the TFL resources above. Free to download.

Unfortunately it tells me that there are 28 stairs between ticket hall and platform at Redbridge and no lift.

puddingpen · 04/08/2017 13:11

All DLR trains/stations are fine for wheelchairs - no ramp needed and lifts at every station. (Check just before you travel on the TFL website for planned lift works or broken lifts). You will need a manual ramp or strong helpers to get on and off the Central Line. Stratford has lifts once you are off. Redbridge is not accessible. You would need to take a bus or a taxi to another Central Line station which is. Hainault or Woodford I think. Some stations are only accessible in one direction on that bit of the Central Line. I think bus to Stratford would be my prefered option and DLR from there.

puddingpen · 04/08/2017 13:13

Also the DLR is the best bit for a DS who loves choo choos as you can sit at the front and pretend to drive!!

TakeMe2Insanity · 04/08/2017 13:31

The mumderground app gives a list of stations with step free access

VinIsGroot · 04/08/2017 13:32

Thanks @puddingpen we do have a McLaren Major large pushchair but we are going to be out all day and if he has a seizure it's just not suitable ...
Thanks everyone else too... Hainault looks like the best place to board.
We've done Redbridge a couple of times (we drive from Suffolk) but neither me or DH can remember if there were stairs ... Last time was 3 years ago and DS was lighter and we obviously used the pushchair!
We could drive all the way there ...but if we drive too far he has seizures ... And I thought no the thrill of the choo's will make his day!!!

I am dreading it!!!!!
