So I went to the local gym today (council run payg) with my dd for a swim. Went to cafe after and the fire doors had been propped open by a kind of barrier so that you wouldn't be able to get out the door but it let air in iyswim. In front of that was a row of high chairs. If there had been a fire it would have taken a significant amount of valuable time to move them and get out the doors. I have just emailed the gym to complain, I didn't speak to the staff at the time as I wanted to make sure that it was addressed by a manager as the women who were there had obviously prppped it open (they were saying how hot it was and how nice the breeze was now the doors were open)
A similar thing happened to me last week when I came across a bolted fire door in a restaurant and had to go through the other exit.
So aibu to expect people to not block fire exits and to email the gym?

YANBU to expect people not to block fire exits, but I don't understand why you didn't say something to staff there and then - you could have still followed it up with e-mail later if yu wanted stuff in writing, but you should have brought it to the attention of whoever was most senior in the building at the time.

Try Aldi if you want to see an example of health and safety gone wrong!

Couldn't you just have pushed the door open more and gone round the blockade?

I'm having trouble picturing something that props open doubt fire doors yet blocks them completely? Fire doors open outwards.

You sound like a busybody wanting to make trouble. Why not simply speak to the staff whilst you were there?

In the event of a fire the brown adrenaline would ensure that any light obstruction such as a few chairs would be quickly moved. Don't think is that much of a issue.

I would just make a mental note and take note of a alternative exit point.

But why were you trying to go out through the fire door anyway?

You do seem to be looking for trouble
