To wonder why the fuck they don't seem to advertise salary ranges on jobs anymore?

Basically that, it's really annoying you see a job you like, you apply, they really like your CV (yay!). You then get invited to interview and then you find they're offering a salary way below the market rate, and even with negotiation they won't come up to anywhere near what you need.

As most of the jobs I apply for are London based a face to face interview means either my DP has to take a day off work to look after the kids, or we have to pay for a child minder for 2 kids, as after the travel there and back and the interview its self it's about 6 hours out of my day.

If you ask, you get told they won't discuss it until interview as it's based on experience, it's so frustrating!

I don't want to do the work of actually applying unless it is a decent wage. I am paid decently in my current job. They advertised the role with the salary. I ignored those that just said a competitive salary.

I agree it is very annoying.

I asked in an interview once, as the advert didn't contain any salary information. Got told they only disclose details to successful candidates! Utterly ridiculous.

Exactly ^ As has been said, many people only go to work for the fucking money! So of COURSE you need to know the salary AND the hours before you even apply. Going back 10 years plus, I don't remember this shit happening. They don't deserve to have any candidates applying to be honest! Hmm

YANBU OP.

Blue - I guess the question is do you get enough candidates, of appropriate quality, who are happy with the number when you tell them it?

Because the message, loud and clear, on this thread is the people who know they're good don't bother even applying for jobs who won't disclose a range. That might not be a problem for you or your clients.

This, ^^ exactly this, why the heck do they suddenly think it's ok?

Unfortunately I have to apply for jobs, so can't just bypass those that don't have salary ranges. On my list of 12 saved jobs, 1 has a salary range

OP. Could you call and ask? I know it feels like you shouldn't have to but it's worth trying

I once went for a job interview in Manchester, they had various roles going as were looking at getting people from my ex company that had just gone bust. Took competency tests and during interview they said that only a few jobs in manchester and the rest were in salisbury..... was i interested in relocating.... no mention of that in advert. Errr no, so wasted very scarce money to go to that waste of time and to boot i got a fine on Metrolink as i jumped onto tram to go one stop to Victoria in the hope of just catching a train, didn't have time to get a ticket but thought meh its one stop it will be fine, bloody inspectors at victoria so got a fine as well (ok i know that last bit was totally my fault). That was 15 years ago and I'm still bitter 😠
