Normal state secondary school, new head so obvs we need a costly uniform change (less than 5 years after the last uniform change) to reflect the new regime Angry

Despite significant parental opposition (I know because I went to the so called "consultation") we now have to stump up for logoed blazers and ties. Expensive but hey ho, suck it up, whatever.

Except an email has just gone out reminding parents that the trousers and skirts HAVE to be one specific and expensive brand and cannot be cheapy or second hand because wait for it....

they are a patented shade of grey looks like tesco grey to me but what do I know

WTF? Is this even legal? The trousers start at £17 a pair FFS and ones to fit a 6th former are nearly £30 Shock

logoed pe Kit includes: skort/pe shirt/socks/sweatshirt and jogging bottoms.

logoed uniform includes blazer tie. skirts have to be a specific sort and are not available in supermarkets/marks/next.

cost a fecking fortune.

Bloody hell.Asda have no white shirts left in mens sizes at all...large teenagers do not fit intothe "teen" sized shirts.

Oldraver · 05/08/2017 11:35

We've just spent £134 on the compulsory logo-ed school uniform. DS had the smallest size blazer and it is still massive on him, looks ridiculous and he was fidgeting in it..

But so long as we are towing the line.....

dementedma · 05/08/2017 16:30

I'm keeping a tally to see what it costs me for Ds (aged 15 and huge so needs men's large sizes). so far:
£16 boxers and socks - Asda
£9 black sweatshirt Fruit of the Loom (Amazon)
£15 3 white shirts Asda online

£40 quid so far and counting...

Tomorrow we are after shoes and trousers and a new rucksack

Alexandrite · 05/08/2017 16:52

Wouldn't he have had boxers anyway?

dementedma · 05/08/2017 17:29

yes, but seriously needed new ones - same with socks. He's outgrown everything over the last few months. Already 6 foot 1 and still growing..

Alexandrite · 05/08/2017 18:01

Oh I see. I thought you were counting the extra costs incurred by school uniforms

noeffingidea · 05/08/2017 18:55

Jessitika 'it's all about priorities. Your children's needs for school should come first'. What, before putting a roof over their head, feeding them and keeping them warm? Not to me they don't.
'I think you need to rethink things if you can't afford a couple of pounds extra for some different trousers'. I think you need to rethink things. Perhaps by finding out a little bit about 'poverty' and what it actually means.

Ridiculous. Dreading senior school and all this nonsense. Our primary school has branded polo shirts, sweat shirts and PE t shirts - the rest can come from Tesco, M&S or anywhere you like. The no second-hand thing is even more ludicrous. Everyone I know buys from these sales and not only do you get cheap but appropriate uniform but the PTA makes money that goes back into the school. Surely a win win?
