I need carpets,living room,bedroom,stairs,hall.
It just seems so expensive.
How many square meters is your house ? And how much did they cost?

As a rough guide good carpet will cost about 500 pounds for an average room. Sorry, it is expensive.

HipsterHunter · 02/08/2017 21:53

Yeah its expensive :-(

dinosaursandtea · 02/08/2017 21:54

Does it have to be carpet? How about wood flooring?

ChickenBhuna · 02/08/2017 21:54

Vinyl tiles are a cheaper option. Easy to lay too.

NipInTheAir · 02/08/2017 21:56

Do you need carpet in every room?

Mum2jenny · 02/08/2017 21:59

With underlay, you'll be lucky to get decent carpet at under £25 per square meter, possibly a lot more if you include fitting.

Raver84 · 02/08/2017 22:00

My front room approx 4m by 5m, stairs landing and bedrooms 4m by 5m and 3m by 3m was 800 with 11mm underlay grippers and fitting the carpet is gorgeous had it in my last house. My friend recommended the company it's a local one try an independent rather than a big chain. Ask around your friends.

jacketej · 02/08/2017 22:02

We paid around 2500 for three bedrooms living room two hallways and two sets of stairs! Carpet is beautiful though and we picked good underlay to last!

Scholes34 · 02/08/2017 22:04

Yes - go to a small, local shop and ask for their best deal. I assume you want a plain carpet if it's to go in every room. We've got floorboards downstairs, and carpet on the stairs and in every bedroom.

FlowerFairyLights · 02/08/2017 22:04

It can be.

are you the person whose just moved into an empty council place with no flooring? There will be cheaper options - one of my friends has wood effect link that is so comfy and looks great.

Also we had a basic office type carpet once that was so much cheaper and wore well as it was designed for high wear!!

ObviouslyNameChangedForThis · 02/08/2017 22:05

Are there floorboards? If so... hire a sander, varnish and get a few rugs

Will look gorgeous!

Corcory · 02/08/2017 22:05

We had quotes recently for our children's bedrooms and in the end decided to go for wood effect vinyl which looks really good. They both have rugs over it and it looks fab and very durable.

JessicaPeach · 03/08/2017 08:38

We have got this all through our house, we bought it 6 years ago just to tide us over until we could afford to replace it with decent carpet but its still going strong now. We got it on a half price offer but they do them all the time. It cost us just under £1000 for everywhere in our average sized 3bed semi

ProfYaffle · 03/08/2017 08:43

Do you have anywhere nearby that sells room sized remnants? We've just got carpets for living room, stairs and vinyl for kitchen for under £500 including fitting and underlay.

lifebook · 03/08/2017 08:44

Dinosaur carpet generally far cheaper than wood flooring though.

Okite · 03/08/2017 08:46

We had to replace all the flooring in our house in one go, it was all fucking hideous it cost us about £10k in total 😨 That was half oak flooring and half carpet. Fortunately we'd allowed for it in the purchase price of the house.

Lenl · 03/08/2017 08:49

This website sold the carpet I wanted (a cheapy one) for a good £4 per sqm less than anywhere local which obviously adds up. I then laid a local carpet fitter to fit for me. Carpet and underlay is expensive but this bought the cost down.

thegreylady · 03/08/2017 09:11

Sorry...the autocorrect of paid to laid re local carpet fitter sounds....interesting!

JustifiedandAncient80 · 03/08/2017 09:13

Yep, it is pricey. Try independant carpet suppliers with no shop front premises - I got a great deal from a supplier that has a stall at a local market. Off the roll is a lot cheaper and you dont have to have that fitted professionally (remember when people laid carpet on newspaper)? Have you got no carpet at all or is it just in a bit of a state? A really good clean can make a massive difference.

wordy17 · 03/08/2017 09:17

We recently bought new carpet for stairs and 2 rooms and we haggled with the shop and got a significant reduction, I was surprised. So remember to haggle too, OP.

Lenl · 03/08/2017 09:50

Hahahahaha I didn't even notice. Might have made it even cheaper though Wink
