AIBU to think this company is just being awkward

Received my order then the following week received the same item again. Contacted them who said sorry they sent it out twice by mistake, can I post it back and they'll refund the postage. I asked if they can email/post me a prepaid label instead and I'll happily send it back.

It'll only cost about £3/4 to send back but right now every single penny is accounted for until payday in a couple of weeks and I don't have wiggle room to wait to get it back...and frankly I also don't want them to not refund me!

They keep saying "it's easier for us to just refund you after we've received it"

AIBU to not send it back until I've received a label?!

Just tell them you will keep the item safe when they either dispatch a courier to collect it or send the prepaid postage and don't budge on it.

AlternativeTentacle · 02/08/2017 18:28

They keep saying "it's easier for us to just refund you after we've received it"

'Not for me it isn't. Let me know when you have sent out the prepaid postage, I can only keep this until the 10th as I have the decorators in and I can't store it any longer for you.'

RippleEffects · 02/08/2017 18:33

What happens if you just cross out your address and write ' return to sender' on the parcel and stick it in a post box? Thats what we do with stuff for previous occupants to our house. Don't know if sender then pays to collect from post office.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 02/08/2017 19:18

Unfortunately it's too big to put in a post box without smashing it to pieces which I'm tempted to do

They've emailed me today to say go to the post office and find out how much it will cost to post then email us and we'll transfer it then you can go back another day and post it

How much fucking time do they actually think I have to fuck around queueing in a post office?!

I'd reply:
Let me know when you can arrange a courier, I will not be running about to the post office for your error. If you want your item, I am prepared to hold it for 2weeks from this date, after that I will dispose of it.

Sod them. They're fucking with you, and they know it

Questioningeverything · 02/08/2017 19:25

I'd also give the company a crap review online

SantanicoPandemonium · 02/08/2017 19:26

I would email them back and say 'you can send a courier to collect the x from my home, I will be available on this date in the morning'.

After that I wouldn't bother responding to anymore emails unless it's about a courier collection.

BeepBeepMOVE · 02/08/2017 19:44

That's too much work for their mistake. Why should you waste your time? And petrol/ parking- are they offering to cover that?

I would say I am in x morning for courier collection and if they don't collect then it's their issue. I certainly wouldn't be trekking backwards and forwards for PO quotes and then sending it.

AlternativeTentacle · 02/08/2017 19:58

They've emailed me today to say go to the post office and find out how much it will cost to post then email us and we'll transfer it then you can go back another day and post it

'Same as it cost you to post to me, yes? no? You surely have more of them so why don't you go to the post office and find out yersel?'

AVY1 · 02/08/2017 20:00

YANBU every time this has happened to me they've told me to keep or dispose of the parcel as it's too much hassle for them.

MissBax · 02/08/2017 20:03

Cheeky feckers - YANBU

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 02/08/2017 20:04

Well exactly Alternative! Surely they know how much it will cost to post as they only sell this item in their shop!
I don't trust them to actually transfer the money because of that!

Thanks all, I really wasn't sure if I was just being awkward myself!

Have they charged you for both items? If not let them collect it, it's their error

StealthPolarBear · 02/08/2017 20:06

I bet you regret being honest!

Felyne · 02/08/2017 20:09

I think legally it's yours as it is 'unsolicited' and therefore entirely their responsibility to collect. I looked this up years ago after I got sent two chassis for a pram, one was what I ordered and one wasn't. I ended up keeping both simply because the company didn't bother to collect it, I had contacted them as soon as it came to let them know of their error (I didn't refuse the wrong order as it came first and I didn't have faith that they would actually send the correct item so wanted to at least have something!)

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 02/08/2017 20:16

No they only charged me once and I've since changed my bank card so I doubt they'll be able to charge me again.

So bloody annoying!!

Don't chase them - wait for the label.

GinAndToast · 02/08/2017 21:01

Gosh no, don't chase them.

I once got sent two £70 baby monitors from JL. They told me to keep the second one as it was not worth their while picking it up.

So I sold it on eBay for £50 and went out for dinner with a babysitter at home with the cash.

Their problem. They are lucky you have spent this much effort so far! They can't and shouldn't expect more.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 07/08/2017 15:20

Still waiting for the label to arrive!
