Going away for just 2 nights camping with my brood. A 6 and 7 year old. We are all quite excited.....
Recently separated! Feeling calm 😬
It's going to piss down tomorrow - all day and all of the night, likely I will be setting tents up in woeful circumstances..

My question to you Mumsnetters?

What am I going to forget?

Pegs to hang stuff up to dry in your tent, apart from that, if you have something nice to drink and a credit card all will be well

WineIsMyMainVice · 01/08/2017 21:41

Waterproofs, hot water bottle, baby wipes, marshmallows, torches, loo roll, plenty of changes of clothes (esp socks!), warm blankets, lighter/matches, loads of snacks, chargers, games, mallet, tent pegs, foot pump for air beds, first aid kit.
Plenty of wine!!!

Loads of spare socks. Waterproof jackets and Wellies. Baby wipes and kitchen roll. Loads of snacks and drinks. Torch. Card games like Uno.

BlackStars · 01/08/2017 21:47

You are very brave. For 2 nights I would sack it and stay home!

IronNeonClasp · 01/08/2017 22:20

Always take the thermals that you think you won't need. It never ceases to amaze me how cold it can get at night in a tent. Every time I tell myself that although I wished I'd taken thermals last time, it really is quite a bit wamer this time and I won't need them and every single time I regret it.
Wellies. Baby wipes. Duck tape for mending everything (especially good for cracked or snapped poles) Torch. Extra plastic bags for keeping stuff dry if you get a leak. Have a brilliant time. Here's wishing you ☀️ in your ⛺️

Write your list on the computer. When you return, add to it the things you wish you'd had!! After a few similar-type trips you will know exactly what your family needs.

To pack things in the right order. First out of the car are the tent, mallet, waterproofs etc, so they need to be where you can get them out EASILY. This really matters in the rain, as you won't be wanting to strew your stuff all over the ground in order to extract the tent!

Also handy to have a snack to hand to eat upon arrival. It's no fun to put up a tent when cold, wet AND hungry and with children grumbling because they haven't been fed.

To set off in good time. If you arrive too late in the day, there is less opportunity to wait for a break in the rain to set the tent up.

Extra batteries for your torches/lanterns.
BIG umbrellas.
Some tatty very old towels to put on the floor just inside the tent for standing on to take wellies off/soak up any water that comes in with you.
Hot chocolate - either sachets or a tub, and lots of teaspoons.
LARGE roll of black bin bags.
Large kitchen roll.
Hot water bottles, onesies/fluffy jamas, fluffy socks, woolly hats for sleeping in.
Mug shots/cup a soup type things are good for snacks and keeping you warmed up while you wait for "proper food" to cook too.
Glow sticks make great nightlights and littles love them.
Bucket (preferably with a lid like a nappy bucket) for emergency toilet needs :D especially during the night!
