To want to move house finally?

I am sorry for the rant but i am just soooo frustrated! Will try not to drip feed.
Me and dh bought our first home 10 years and being the naive first timers we were fell in love with the house and did not put the thought into the estate/area. Fast forward to now and we have grown our family and need a bigger home. The street we live can be very anti social and we have seen some horrific things (not aimed at us). So in feb this year we put our home up for sale and have found a home we love that we would love to put an offer in.
The catch? 2 and half years ago i went self employed. Contracted to NHS for a set amount of money, no more no less. When we are going for mortgages they ask for my last tax return.... which would be fine and dandy expect i was on maternity leave for 9 months of that year so the amount is pitiful. Which has the knock on effect of not getting a decent size mortgage.
We were content to wait until next year after i had put in a big tax return but we have fallen in love with this house.
In a way i feel i am being punished for having my baby.mortgage lenders are bithered bythe fact i can show them my contract which tells me how much i will earn!
Sorry for the long rant but i just needed to get that out!
Has anyone been in a similar position and can help?

Have you tried London and country, they were able to dig me out of a hole with being on maternity leave and getting a mortgage (although I'm not self employeed) I just had to show my last wage slip and my last wage slip before going on mat leave.

If you want to PM me I can send a link and a name

Don't use L&C find a specialist self employed broker either on recommendation or on www.unbiased.co.uk

Unfortunately for the self employed self certification mortgages pre crash has ruined it for self employed people post crash.

We used lloydstsb recently and they did not take into account maternity pay, they used my previous pay details and assumed I would be returning to work. It may be different with self employed however.
