To think it's not normal to go dizzy all the time?

Everytime I stand up. Getting progressively worse. GP doesn't take it seriously but it isn't normal is it?!

Have you had blood tests and had your blood pressure checked?

I used to get dizziness a lot and it turned out I was severely anaemic, which in turn caused low blood pressure.

WorkingBling · 01/08/2017 15:08

No. Not normal and your Gp is a twat. Most common issues are likely low blood pressure. Or could be sinuses. Go to a different GP.

I get low blood pressure sometimes and get dizzy when I stand up or if I've been bending down and stand up too fast. I try to make sure that I drink plenty and don't t get dehydrated, which helps. First thing in the morning is the worst time.

If it carries on then maybe see a different GP. Hope you get sorted soon, OP.

I've always had low blood pressure and anaemia, not had it checked recently though - well not properly anyway, I did it myself at the gym and the reading was 88/44 so I assumed the machine was broken!! Shit I hope that wasn't a true reading, I'm starting to wonder now.

I also became vegetarian about two months ago so I wonder if that's had an impact on my iron levels??

You could have POTS? Measure your blood pressure standing up and sitting down.

itsmetree · 01/08/2017 15:42

It's not exactly normal but it's not that uncommon either. My BP is often as low as 82/50 and I get dizzy all the time from sitting/laying to standing. Unless there is an underlying cause such as anemia or an internal bleed there isn't much that they can do about it to be honest. However your GP should be ruling out any underlying cause but apart from that there's not a lot they can do. You could try increasing your salt intake.

Check your blood pressure, iron and potassium.

OverTheHammer · 01/08/2017 15:46

Just tried to get an appointment with GP and they have nothing at all this week. Ridiculous.

As brasty says, best to rule out PoTS too. Check your heart rate, not BP though. If you get a sustained ride of heart rate of over 30bpm it could be indicative of PoTS - Google 'stand test' or 'poor man's tilt'. Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

gandalfspants · 01/08/2017 15:47

I have this and it's just low blood pressure and mild anaemia, it's worse when I'm slimmer.

There's not much they can do really. You could get the GP to check your BP and iron levels, but iron tablets are grim so you're probably better off trying to increase your intake through diet.

Make sure you're eating lots of iron rich foods (could be getting less if you've recently cut out meat? Especially if you used to eat red meat?)

Stay hydrated too - dehydration will lower your BP I think.

CockacidalManiac · 01/08/2017 15:47

Try and get a practice nurse appointment then.

RatRolyPoly · 01/08/2017 15:48

I came on to say the same as everyone else; check for anaemia and low blood pressure!

SheepyFun · 01/08/2017 15:51

Just to say, that blood pressure reading isn't impossible - I registered 90/50 while pregnant, which is pretty close. I wasn't getting dizzy, but my family tend to have low blood pressure, and cope reasonably well with it. That doesn't mean you should put up with being dizzy.
