Dog in rental property

Moved into a new house on Friday. Standard tenancy, no pets allowed which I didn't really pay much attention to when signing the contract aso I had no pets.
Roll on the day after my tenancy starts and my Mum has to go into hospital unexpectedly. In the heat of everything, I agree to take her dog to stay at mine whilst she goes in, not really thinking about it wih everything else that was going on.
At lunchtime I got a call from the Estate Agents saying the landlord had been past the property and seen the dog, and dogs aren't allowed.
Well, fuck. I hadn't even thought of that. For context I work in a pretty stressful job as well as running two online businesses and study an OU degree on the side so I've not really slept in days with the house move and didn't think the situation through.

I've gone back to them and explained. I am pretty positive I won't find alternative arrangements for the dog.
I have offered an additional deposit to cover the temporary change and suggested an additional contract labelling me liable for any additional wear to the house.

Dog is clean, fleaed and beautifully behaved and genuinely won't cause any damage. unlike if I had a toddler

I haven't heard back yet and am panicking. I could just put my head on my desk and cry, I'm so stressed.

I understand that not everyone is a dog lover but honestly there seems be some real dog haters on here (most of them arseholes).

Not ALL dogs cause damage. I have a 6 year old dog that has never caused any damage. He has never chewed anything. When I got him at 9 weeks his breeder gave me a toy for him which he still has and it looks almost new.

I have had dogs that cause damage plenty that haven't.

NO all dogs DO NOT smell. Lots of dog breeds do especially when wet but not ALL. The breed of dog I have does not even when wet. NO it is not because I have got used to it, can't smell, am biased blah bloody blah.

I can often smell if a house has a dog in it but whenever I have been to a house that has my breed it does not smell.

As I said in my previous post, if my house smelt of dog my MIL would tell me. She would love to tell me that so the slightest whiff and she would.

She used to tell me previous houses smelt of my cat and she doesn't like dogs so no reason for her to keep quiet.

My dog has different sort of fur/hair. I have a friend who is a dog groomer so obviously works with loads of different breeds, none of which she has any problem with. She is allergic to my breed. Her eyes actually puff up and close to tiny slits.

Also not all dogs are ok in kennels. I have a lot to do with dog rescue and some dogs become so anxious and frightened in kennels they won't eat, they literally sit in a corner staring at the wall.

I hope OP and the dog are both ok. If I were her I would be looking to move once my rental was up anyway what with the landlord and the idiot neighbour.

Ok the dog was barking but it's not like it was day after day for weeks is it? Could they not have spoken to the OP?

Some people just seem to love being nasty.

What breed do you have that doesn't smell, mydog? Not being snarky, just curious. We were told greyhounds didn't, but ours honks the fecking house out!
I've never actually been in a dog household that would have allowed the owner to hide the fact that a dog lived there.

mydogisthebest · 06/08/2017 13:55

Greyhounds definitely smell especially if they are wet.

I don't really want to say what breed I have as they are not that common and I don't want to be recognised from real life.

I will say they are a long haired breed

What happened to the dog after it mauled your boyfriend?

NoFucksImAQueen · 12/08/2017 20:43

Stef am I missing something, where did the op say it mauled her bf?
Captain are you ok? What happened to the dog?

steff13 · 12/08/2017 20:47

In her other thread. She had to miss work to take him to the hospital because the dog bit half his face off.

Dog mauled her boyfriend and she's worried about her job!

eatingonlyapples · 12/08/2017 21:02

Lord, the dog's been put down then I'm sure

perper · 13/08/2017 00:13

eatingonlyapples Sorry but I'm not sure 'haha' is really an appropriate response.

So sorry to see everything you're going through Captain- hope it all picks up, keep fighting through and try not to worry about things (much easier said than done!)

Hope your mum (and boyfriend!) is ok now (and I'd really like to think the dog is back with her, but understand if that's not the case).

Best wishes xxx

If the dog is mauling people's faces off it needs to be put down...
honestly. This is the same mutt that couldn't 'cope' with kennels?

perper · 13/08/2017 14:52

sororitynoise That's a very old-fashioned view and not necessarily the case- not sure why you've implied that 'cope' is ridiculous, but clearly the dog was incredibly stressed. There are strategies to work through that, but euthanasia is a strategy people sometimes choose. This is not the place to be arguing whether it needs to happen or is right or wrong- clearly if the dog has been put down it'll have happened by now, and the OP needs a huge amount of support, not mildly sarcastic comments.

sororitynoise · 13/08/2017 14:54

'Huge amount of support'
She needs a kick up the arse.

perper · 13/08/2017 15:01

sororitynoise clearly, you have not read both the full threads and have NO idea what the hell she's going through. Get a grip- if you don't know what you're talking about, don't say anything.

sororitynoise · 13/08/2017 15:04

get a grip? How about don't keep dogs that maul people's faces off against your tenancy agreement
Go to work and get support for anxiety.

How about trying that?

Excited101 · 13/08/2017 17:46

Woah! What happened with your bf and the dog??!
