Who is BU re: use of showers at work

MegEmski · 01/08/2017 13:12

Sorry, very boring!

Is Person A unreasonable or Person B?

Person A viewpoint:
I got back from my bike ride and went up to the work showers. I put my stuff down / hung my towel up etc. then had to pop back to my desk for something. Whilst I was there someone asked me something so it was 5 - 10 minutes before I got back to the showers. When I got there, someone had gone in with all my stuff in there so I had to wait until they finished. When they got out, I pointed out all my stuff was there and had a little bit of a (polite) moan. They said "oh sorry, I waited 5 minutes but I thought you were still out exercising and had just left your bits here after getting changed". Surely it's obvious I had just popped away and the shower room was 'in use'?

Person B viewpoint:
I got back from my run and went to the work shower. Someone's bag / towel was in there but I wasn't sure where they were. I waited for 5 minutes or so in case they came back. Most of us get changed and leave our bags at reception but I know occasionally some people leave them in the shower room so I presumed they were out running or whatever. We are a big-ish office (2 floors) so I couldn't go round asking & the other shower was full. I used the shower and was pretty quick, but when I got out the person was waiting. I apologised and explained but they were a bit stroppy. Surely you don't leave your stuff and walk off if you want to use the shower?

First world problems I know!

A is unreasonable, obviously.

Thing is, even if the OP is Person A, they won't admit it now and would say they were Person B regardless!

lmer · 01/08/2017 13:21

Person A was definitely in the wrong- as much as it sucks they got called away

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 01/08/2017 13:22

I think neither unreasonable as person A only said politely their things were there which I think is OK.

ScrambledSmegs · 01/08/2017 13:22

Person A was in the wrong.

You can't bagsy a shower like that. It's as wrong as leaving your crap in a cubicle at the swimming pool and thinking that makes it 'yours'.

Thesingingtoad · 01/08/2017 13:23

Person A unreasonable - the annoying type to leave their stuff in the cubicles at the gym/swimming pool

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 01/08/2017 13:24

Person A is wrong.

Notevilstepmother · 01/08/2017 13:24

Person A is lucky that person B was too nice to chuck all of person A's crap on the floor outside.

Person A should not leave their crap lying around in communal facilities and then wander off. Use the shower, then clear up and let someone else use it. If person A needs to fetch something and then wander off for a chat they should have moved their stuff out before they wandered off.

UrsulaPandress · 01/08/2017 13:25

I agree with everyone else.

B was in the right.

Come on, which one are you?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/08/2017 13:27

I want to know which one you are, too.

Bunnyhipsdontliegrl · 01/08/2017 13:29

I hate those person A and person B threads. Especially since it is always one sided... There is no way anyone can say person A was right.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 01/08/2017 13:30

How long did A expect B to stand around waiting While they fucked about not using the shower...?
I hope you are person B.

PoorYorick · 01/08/2017 13:30

It is so obvious that you are B that I can't give an opinion.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 01/08/2017 13:31

A is unreasonable.
B is in the right.

MegEmski · 01/08/2017 13:31

Yay.

You are correct I'm person B

See, I quite like A and B threads although I guess sometimes it's obvious. I tried to make it unbiased but clearly failed....

OP posts:
Ginkypig · 01/08/2017 13:33

Obviously A was in the wrong but if I'd been person b I'd probably have put the stuff neatly outside the door so they could get it while I was in (if it was safe to do so)

AndNowItIsSeven · 01/08/2017 13:33

A was selfish and entitled.

AndNowItIsSeven · 01/08/2017 13:34

I thought you were A op Grin

OnionKnight · 01/08/2017 13:34

A was being a twat.

Twistmeandturnme · 01/08/2017 13:34

OP: you are person B, and I'd bet my bottom dollar that you didn't actually wait 5 mins (not that you should have needed to IMO) and person A is maintaining that they were gone less than 5 mins in total.
Either way YANBU.

MegEmski · 01/08/2017 13:35

@ginkypig good idea but nowhere to put it outside the door, it would be in the way of people heading to the loos etc.

@andnowitisseven - sorry to disappoint :D

OP posts:
Thesingingtoad · 01/08/2017 13:35

A was lucky their stuff didn't end up on the floor wet.

MegEmski · 01/08/2017 13:36

@twistmeandturnme possibly not - hard to guess time - I went out to check if the other shower was free, then checked the landing in case someone was topping up their water bottle looking sporty and sweaty, then came back and hovered awkwardly for a bit!

OP posts:
Mulberry72 · 01/08/2017 13:37

Person A is U
Person B is NBU

emilybrontescorset · 01/08/2017 13:37

Person B had done nothing wrong

VestalVirgin · 01/08/2017 13:38

I think it was unbiased. Before reading the second part, I thought you were person A.
It was just pretty clear who is being unreasonable.

Reserving showers for your own personal use by leaving stuff there ... just doesn't work. They're much like toilets in that, first person there, first to use.

Emergencies can happen, so I'd not judge someone for leaving their stuff there, but I do judge people who then are rude when someone else quite sensibly makes use of the time the shower is not occupied.

... unlike toilets, people also usually don't need to shower immediately, so Person A could just have waited.

Let's hope Person A will realize this later on and it was just a temporary bout of selfishness. People sometimes have those.
