To ask for your memories of the nineties?

I was a kid in the nineties and I remember it as a really nice decade, exiting stuff happening culturally, general national optimism, a certain innocence which seems to have been shattered after September 11th (although the IRA was obviously still active in the 90s and there were atrocities in Yugoslavia etc).

My question is, do I just remember it as a nice time because I was a kid, or was there actually a tangible difference in national mood?

Two things always spring to mind when thinking of the 90's.......Kappa tracksuit bottoms and the 'curtains' hairstyle for boys!

I was a teenager in the 90s which is probably why it seemed like a good time, as I had no real worries apart from exams and boyfriends.

Brit Pop have the 90s a real feel good factor. There was some great bands in the 90s - Nirvana, Oasis, Blur, Ocean Colour Scene, the Levellers just to name a few!

I loved the whole grunge scene and the fashions - DMs, flowing skirts, big baggy jumpers.

No one had mobiles (not teens in the mid 90s anyway) so although it meant planning everything advance, there wasn't the pressure there is now of being always available.

Life seemed a lot more free and easy back then.

I was not yet a teenager in the 90s and all I remember was 9pm on CNN airing constant wars. It was so much that I remember telling my grandad I wanted to be the female news reporter in the war zone with bullets flying over her.

Lots of starving children and contacts civil wars around Africa. Seeing lots of dead bodies in the news about what was happening in Rwanda. Vaguely remembering adults talking about people being eaten by fish and human hair being found in them for some reason. That put me off fish for a long time as child. I remember bill Clinton, Dianna traveling, visiting lots of orphanages and her death being big news too. Tony Blair was constantly in the news and for some reason always waving.

The music was great. Happy playful music with everyone trying to look futuristic. From wearing lots of glitter, baggy combat pants, to cloths that looked like blow up plastic bags. It was either colour full or black from top to bottom or fully white.

The only actors I remember were were jean claud van dam, Bruce lee and Bruce willies and their movies (or something similar) because those were mostly the only movies my youngish uncle borrowed from the video library. Never Disney Grin. Not forgetting the American movies with lots of swear words. Funnily enough we didn't grow up swearing like the sewage hits us on the lips. Translated (more dumbed than translated in a funny way based on how the person see it because they can't speak those languages too. It was more the actions being described 😂) Chinese and Japanese movies into

And before global terrorism the way we know it now.

A more innocent time to be a kid/teenager for sure. No internet and no smartphones.
Also everything today is so instant, cheap and throwaway.
I enjoyed being in my teens in the 90's for sure.
