My nana lives in a council property and her toilet has broken.
I rang at 2pm to ask someone to come out and fix it as she is desperate for the toilet.
She is 98 and has dementia.
Still nobody has been she's getting upset now.

You need to go and get a commode for her to use overnight try the red cross or the ss. Or you will have to take her home to stay with you op , hope she is ok .

This has happened to our toilet before when my daughter decided to 'post' a full packet of baby wipes in the loo and try to flush them away.

I suggest you get rubber gloves on and go in there deep to try and pull out as much of the obstruction as possible and bin it.

Lift the cistern lid and flush from inside.

Are the council treating this as an emergency repair? If so, it's usually within six hours they send someone. Worth another call to the out of hours emergency number?

X post. Hope your nan isn't too upset by it all.

Most councils have a policy for elderly/vulnerable residents. I take it it is the only toilet in the property? Someone should come out tonight for her.
Assuming you've tried to unblock it like a responsible relative:
Call the repairs line
Tell them it is the only toilet
Tell them her age/vulnerability
Tell them that waste is likely to overflow and ruin their flooring (as this is the truth if it keeps being used)
Insist on speaking to a repairs manager if the agent is of no help. Ask for the criteria for elderly/vulnerable residents
Ask them to provide a chemical toilet if they are unable to unblock the toilet tonight.
Tell them you will complain if this is not done.

Are you staying with her tonight? Might be a bit grim but can you help her pee in the bath if possible, if you can't unblock and she desperately needs to go before they come out?

Sorry, took too long to post, glad they came out. If they can't do it, make sure to ask for a chemical toilet if there's nowhere else you can look after her in the meantime
