... to go on holiday without travel insurance?

I have a number of pre-existing medical conditions, the severity of which appear to have scared the hell out of everyone's insurance algorithms: to insure me fully would cost over £400, and that's the cheapest quote so far. That said, the likelihood of any of the said conditions causing problems whilst I am abroad is vanishingly minimal... and if I were to become ill, I would almost certainly be able to get a quick flight home for about half the price of what I'm quoted for the insurance.

AIBU simply to take my chances and travel uninsured? I can't decide...

All good advice... thanks. Insurancewith also suggested I wait until after what will (hopefully) be the final hospital appointment before travel, as info the consultant may give me might reduce the premium a bit.

But this thread has in any case convinced me: IWBVU.

yep also when you phone them they are quite clear on what needs to be mentioned or not.
dc has a chronic bone condition. very very unlikely to lead to hospital admission and unable to fly.
so it is declared but excluded on our (family) policy.

Our previous insurer said that they couldn't exclude a minor dermatology condition, we either coughed up £80 extra or the whole family policy for all members would be invalid for everything. This was a well known high street seller of travel insurance. Anyone know if this was a lie (sales technique)?

I have a very rare medical condition which is a licence for some insurance companies to quote extortionate rates. I also travel to the US every year for three weeks and would never dream of going without it.

We have a family policy which includes my condition as well as those of my severely disabled 12 yr old DC and asthmatic DH.

In all the years I have been I have only ever had to claim once (ironically for a medical condition totally unrelated!) and the US medical bills amounted to way more than over 25 years of insurance.

Don't risk it. Shit happens.

Explorer Travel were quite reasonable for our US holiday last summer. 3 out of 4 of us with pre existing medical conditions came to just over £100

AngelaoftheNorth just wanted to say yes, staysure can be used for people in their 30's and their DC. We used them when I was mid 30's no issue at all.
