to have thrown away 'Mr Small'?

It's a dreadful book and I hate it but dd likes it. There seems to be a MN consensus against it too - it came up many times on those 'which children's books do you hate?' threads last week.

No-one argued that it is in fact deceptively complex and a classic of modern literature.

It came free with a newspaper so it's not like someone bought it for her.

(I mean the Mr Men books in general came up, not Mr Small in particular.)

I would not throw something away just because of a MN consensus, of course, but it did seem to suggest I am right and it really is rubbish.

We have it on CD in the car and listen to it every morning LOL

KathyMCMLXXII · 27/03/2007 18:10

Oh b*gger.
Shall I get it out?
Then you can write a 500 word post explaining the deeper meaning which I have missed

unreasonable, yes.

I love mr small.

exbury · 27/03/2007 18:18

Not unreasonable at all. They were written to sell by a marketing man (literally). I might "lose" something like that for a while to check how gutted/otherwise the DC in question was, but that's cos I can't stand the broken-hearted tears when they decide it was in fact their most treasured possession.

Any suggestions on what to do with a complete set of Disney Ladybird books (books of the films) which I hate cos they are so badly written, but which were given to DS by SIL?

KathyMCMLXXII · 27/03/2007 18:20

She's only 21 months so she won't remember it ever existed.
Your Disney Ladybirds sounds like a much harder one [frown]

That's a tough one exbury. We face a similar dilemma with a hateful-but-given-with-love set of Disney Grolier stories too. They are just dreadful, but as it happens dd's only access to princess drivel at the moment.

exbury · 27/03/2007 18:30

Yes - I did try hiding them fairly quickly after they arrived but DS found them and made me read them - why can't Disney employ people who can actually write for these things?!

nikkie · 27/03/2007 18:30

The only unreasonable bit was if you actuall thrown it in the bin!
Charity shops or readitswapit!

KathyMCMLXXII · 27/03/2007 18:31

It was in the bin - not even the paper recycling in case dh finds it and gets it out.

i actually like the mr men, and my ds loves them. But I don't like the newer ones - mr cool, mr good, can't remember the other one but it's dreadful.

KathyMCMLXXII · 27/03/2007 18:36

Is there really a Mr Cool?

We still have several from when I was a child. The kids like them but the only one I really appreciate now is Mr Noisy. Good for teaching children not to shout and to say please.

are you not embarrassed? To be this much of a loser?

birdling · 10/04/2023 09:40

Mr Forgetful is the best 😁

Given that the OPs daughter is 18 now, if she was upset she's probably over it
