Put house up for sale- Maggots!

Help! Came downstairs this morning to find hallway crawling with maggots! I think they have come under the front door from wheely bin about 10yards away in driveway! Have wooden floor so can't bleach or boiling water the bastards. I've beached and boiling watered outside the front door. Literally got rid of all by sweeping up but throughout the day we have had some, nothing like this morning but I am dreading the morning. Shall I just move or have you wise mumsnetters got some advice?

Sprinkle the area between bin and door with salt, and tackle the bin itself too!

Goodgriefisitginfizzoclock · 30/07/2017 20:54

Should add, pretty confident from my wheely bin as that was crawling with the bastards too that is now out on grass boundary as collection day tomorrow I threw bleach inside that and will boiling water bleach tomorrow when emptied.

They'll probably turn into bluebottles...once they do they'll be gone in a couple of days.
Nasty though

Goodgriefisitginfizzoclock · 30/07/2017 20:56

Have put salt all round edges by skirting board and the little gits were wriggling under the skirting in the gap as I was sweeping this morning,

This happened to me, thought I'd got them all. Two days later fucking fly apocalypse! It was awful.

averylongtimeago · 30/07/2017 21:02

Just be thankful you don't have a son who goes fishing....the time the maggots escaped in the fridge.....the time he forgot about his bait box and left it in his bedroom, the house was full of huge bluebottles.
He has left home now, he is DiLs problem now!

Goodgriefisitginfizzoclock · 30/07/2017 21:03

OMG but you thought you had got them all highway? Surely 1 maggot=1 fly?? I am going to have to sell up aren't I ?

Oh get a grip they are just fly caterpillars Grin

Just sweep them up and mop as usual. They won't hurt you!

goingtotown · 30/07/2017 21:19

Spray with fly killer.

MumBod · 30/07/2017 21:20
Shock

You're going to have to burn your house down. It's the only way.

ThePinkOcelot · 30/07/2017 21:22

Fortnightly bun collection in this weather certainly doesn't help!

Stormwhale · 30/07/2017 21:24

Bleurgh. Maggots give me the heave. I would have screamed, then called my dad. I can deal with most things as I am a fully grown woman, but not maggots.

BeepBeepMOVE · 30/07/2017 21:35

Did you rinse the bleach out of the bin?

I think you aren't allowed to put harmful things in the bins because rubbish workers can get it on them either when emptying the bins or sorting the rubbish at the plant.

HighwayDragon1 · 30/07/2017 21:49

I thought I had got all the maggots, but judging by the horrific amount of flies clearly I hadn't done a good enough job.

Most flew out the back door when I opened it. The rest died a horrible fly spray death.

Biscusting · 30/07/2017 21:57

The horror! Could you spray the floor with fly spray before you go to bed to minimise any shocks in the morning?

How does this happen!? I'm having cold sweats here.

SpareChangeDownTheSofa · 30/07/2017 21:59

they are just fly caterpillars Grin

Supersoaryflappypigeon · 30/07/2017 22:06

We have our bin professionally cleaned monthly now. I can't cope with maggots-I'm a total wuss. They give me the creeps.

Goodgriefisitginfizzoclock · 30/07/2017 22:12

Just came up from downstairs used Raid fly spray as guessed would be OK on floor, and tbh, I am passed caring its seemed to draw the bastards out of god know where, well I do the skirting boards and have swept up and put in boiling water in bucket. As I said wheely bin on boundary awaiting collection in the morning, yes I did put thick bleach inside of lid and a liberal sprinkling on rubbish bags, it's for landfill so no one is going to be sorting through and gets attached and tipped on wagon so I don't think any bin men will be harmed! I am traumatised! Sick, poo or indeed anything else I can deal with but flies and maggots yuck

picklemepopcorn · 30/07/2017 22:16

I've heard that wiping the rim and lid with Jeyes fluid stops maggots.

Goodgriefisitginfizzoclock · 30/07/2017 22:22

I shall be hitting the shops tomorrow for assorted disinfectants and some kind of fly strips ? Really need and old fashioned hardware store think there is one fairly near.

OP posts:
WickedGirl · 31/07/2017 09:12

If you leave the lid open, then it's will happily eat the maggots
They will come back everyday to eat them too

WickedGirl · 31/07/2017 09:12

Birds will

CaoNiMartacus · 31/07/2017 09:57

Brrrr.

Incidentally, "maggots" has just crept to the top of my Worst Words list. It's vile!

magicstar1 · 31/07/2017 16:09

Oh OP I read this to DH last night while we were away and we were making suitable disgusted noises. Well we got home and opened the kitchen bin this morning and two maggots fell out. I screamed for DH and when he went move it and a shower fell out all over the floor.
Thanks to your warning I swept them away from the skirting...a couple got under the island but he pulled the edging off and got them out.
My skin is still crawling.
