I am a bit of an IT numpty so hope someone can help. Earlier today I read a post that I THINK was on Aibu. The poor woman had a terrible time with a constantly barking dog. Can't find it now. I wanted to tell her we had a similar problem with several very close neighbours. Dog barking at all hours. Recently we bought an ultrasonic device from Amazon. It was about 15 quid and never was money better spent. Just google dog deterrent. It has a name like Hoondt. It has trained all the local yapping dogs. Could someone please locate this lady and pass on this information.

I'm 35 and I can hear them.

We've got a citronella collar for one of our dogs who loves to bark incessantly at the dog next door. It works a treat. My other dogs don't bark so it has no effect on them.

Straighttalker, how delightful that would be for all your other neighbours. HmmHmmHmm

I have tried having a word next door. Nothing has changed. But it is quite annoying, especially on hot evenings. It is a lot to put up with. Should
I just put up and shut up, because it would be unpleasant for the dog?

You can tell (or should be able to) from my previous post that I am not treating the device lightly. I haven't gone straight out and bought one, ffs.

Well I have seen someone have a nervous breakdown and be permanently unemployed because of selfish neighbours allowing their dog to bark all day while they were out. When we have used this the dogs have never cowered. They stop barking, look a bit puzzled then start barking again. After two or three goes they stop barking. Problem solved. There are some people who suffer, and I mean suffer, terrible flashbacks with barking dogs which can set off PTSD symptoms. It has transformed our quality of life.

But granny it seems that for many the dog's right to bark madly all day trumps a person's right not to be held hostage by noise nuisance in their own home and garden.

I am glad you have had a good experience of the device. I am encouraged to try it now! 👍

I wish I'd known about this device. Dog owners should never underestimate how a dog barking from early morning til night can affect quality of life of people who have absolutely no control over the dog.Im a stay at home mum and I nearly had a nervous breakdown due to my neighbours dog who started barking at 5am when she drove off to work. The poor dog was kept outside barking all day, in obvious distress and woke my kids up from the crack of dawn and prevented them from napping during the day. I reported to the council and got nowhere so I wrote her a letter, which worked for a while and now the dog has started again. Thankfully she's moving and taking her poor miserable dog with her.
In fairness I have a lot of pity for that dog, she's a cruel woman leaving it outside to bark in obvious distress all day, it literally sat at the back door barking up at the kitchen window. Inflicting it on me and the poor pensioners that live round here was just another part of her cruelty.

If this ever happens again I will be buying the device, the distress of an animal does not trump the distress of people, and after months of it all day everyday all I felt was distress.

We had a similar device but it was in the audible range - every time the dog barked, it let out a screeching noise which in theory made the dog stop barking. What actually happened was that the dog's owners were so annoyed by the screeching that they stopped leaving the dog outside for hours. So we retrained the owners, not the dog. But still a good result.

Our neighbour with the five Yorkshire terriers has returned from a long holiday. They love their dogs so much that they leave them locked up all day even though they are both retired. It has taken about two hours before they were trained not to bark when someone walks by. Bliss😀😀😀😀😀
