I'm posting here for traffic!! While I was changing ds2, ds1 managed to tip an entire bottle of cooking oil alll over himself and the floor! what's the best way to get oil out of carpet/clothes and hair!? Also is it early for Wine?

Salt or flour or something similar to absorb the oil maybe

dementedpixie · 29/07/2017 09:42

That's for the floor, not your child! Wonder if a soak in soda crystals would get it out of clothing. A bath with lots of soap and shampoo for your boy

CockacidalManiac · 29/07/2017 09:42

Sand. You'll have to get the sand up afterwards though.

MummyPigLovesAppleSauce · 29/07/2017 09:44

Washing up liquid for your little one... but lots of baby lotion after, as it will dry your DC's skin out

HipsterHunter · 29/07/2017 09:44

Oh no on the carpet??

A shower and wash with shampoo (or washing up liquid if you can bare it) will be fine for body.

The carpet is tricky!

Calphurnia · 29/07/2017 09:46

Just rub it into the child, it's a good moisturiser Smile
Sawdust or sand for the floor

TSSDNCOP · 29/07/2017 09:46

Flour. You'll need a lot, but it's easier to pick up clumps than smear around with paper towels. If I splash a top whilst cooking I dab cornflour on the mark and it lifts it every time.

faithinthesound · 29/07/2017 09:48

When I worked in grocery store and bottles of oil would break, we poured kitty litter on them, left it to soak up, then swept up the kitty litter. Could you try that?

TroysMammy · 29/07/2017 09:48

Cat litter? I'm sure I read that it can be used for engine oil spills.

steff13 · 29/07/2017 09:50

Maybe cat litter? The regular kind, not clumping.

Moanyoldcow · 29/07/2017 09:53

Flour. Loads as PP said but it will work for carpet and clothes.

Bath and lots of soap and shampoo for the child.

lmer · 29/07/2017 09:55

Child now smells more human and less like a chip shop after many soapings!! Of to buy flour to tackle the carpet! Thankyou for your suggestions!

Something to absorb the oil that you can vacuum. Not flour as it will turn to glue. Bicarb soda is good. Cat litter would probably be better. (Make sure it's not the paper pellet kind though)

Pickleypickles · 29/07/2017 12:25

I wouldn't put flour on it on the carpet personally, when we got oil all over ours just a lot fairy liquid hot water and scrubbing got it out, had to do it twice (the carpet is green don't know if that makes a difference?) but you can't see it now at all

SpartacusSaiman · 29/07/2017 12:28

I wouldnt put flour on the carpet. Could end up as a paste.

We usually use loads of salt. Use loads then hoover the salt and wash the carpet.

lmer · 29/07/2017 12:35

So we used flour to make get the bulk out, and then used shampoo (I have one for oily hair so figured I'd give it a shot!) and it seems to have come up ok! Now to try get it out of the clothes! (Normally I wouldn't bother, but these were a present from on older relative who's very particular about giving clothes and them seeing them out wearing them!)
