In 4 days I will be flying to visit family in Italy with my OH, 4yo, 2yo & 10mo. My brother then booked tickets for him and his OH on the same outbound flight. Two days ago my bro had just realised that the type of tickets he purchased did not come with any baggage allowance. He spoke to airline and said it would cost €128. I called airline to see if I could do anything. Discovered my 10mo was allowed 10kg checked hand luggage. I told my bro he was more than welcome to use that. Anywayyyyy today I asked if he could put my pram in the UNUSED back seats of his hire vehicle (we hired our own, but just in case we did not have the room). My bro got really arsey and quite rude. Saying he wasn't faffing about at airport etc.
Bit of background- I overpack for holidays and my bro never goes out of his way for anyone.
AIBU to expect my bro to help me out, just like I would always do for him ?????
I genuinely think he's an absolute f@&k s@&t!!!

Ok so you need to breath and think before you ever offer to do anything for him.
Before you buy something for him look at it and say, "When did he last buy me something?" answer never , so put it back.
He has a problem, wait for him to ask you for something to fix it...
You want to love your brother, and your going the extra mile to make this happen, but your brother just doesn't care. So stop trying to gain his love and your life will improve.
By the way not saying he doesn't love you, his brain just isn't wired to join the dots of help equals love.

Stop trying to understand him, you can't fix him, it's just the way he is.

Stop doing things for him, then you won't be disappointed about him throwing it back in your face.

CockacidalManiac · 29/07/2017 12:43

Just thank god you're not married to him.

rollonthesummer · 29/07/2017 12:47

Well that holiday will be a bundle of fun!

Wrapmeupincottonwool · 29/07/2017 13:02

Cockacidalmaniac that made me laugh. When I was younger I genuinely thought you had to marry your bro. Needless to say my mum had to calm me down after hysterically crying

Quite ironically my bro is actually golden child and I'm black sheep 🤔. We get used to these things

If he's been indulged all his life as the 'golden child', that'll explain how he is. He's been spoilt.

Wrapmeupincottonwool · 29/07/2017 13:38

Definately spoilt!

Nothing profound to add, but my Dad is just like your brother. If asked to do a favour, he always responds "why should I?" If there's nothing in it for him, he won't do it. He's also very highly paid and very wealthy, so there must be some sort of correlation there, as you suggested. He's a selfish arsehole and I love him, but don't particularly like him, and I've made my peace with that over the years. I don't ask him for anything, but equally, I don't offer anything. It works for us.

Wrapmeupincottonwool · 29/07/2017 15:13

Thenorthernluce someone did suggest a similarity between someone being wealthy and also an arsehole. Think they hit the nail on the head. Usually I do really like my brother and get in well. If we go out for meals he always offers to pay, which is very kind. But these things don't inconvenience him. He turns into some kind of unreasonable prick if you ask him for a favour.
Also your dad sounds like a bit of a dick. I totally understand where your coming from. I can come to peace with something if I understand it, or even slightly understand it, but my bro, I just don't get.
