To expect to get my money back?

I helped a family member out by sending a cheque for £30.00 for a holding deposit on an item, a few days later the family member decided they no longer wanted the item and cancelled it, and then tells me they don't think they'll be able to get the deposit back though. They should still pay me though, right?

Yes I would say the family member owes you regardless of whether they bought the item or not

AgnesNitt1976 · 28/07/2017 18:39

yes they absolutely should pay you back

luckylucky24 · 28/07/2017 18:39

Of course they should!

YANBU. Their flakiness shouldn't leave you out of pocket, they owe you £30.

Unless there are some massively important facts you've missed out no-one in their right mind would think you shouldn't get your money back

ShowMePotatoSalad · 28/07/2017 18:46

Yes definitely! I would say "oh how awful for you. You can give me back the £30 by cash or cheque, either's fine"
