To ask how to not poison a birthday party?

I'm trying to do a fairly big party on a very small budget and had the bright idea of value buns and hotdogs

But now I've started trying to figure out the logistics of catering 40+ hotdogs without poisoning anyone... I'm not sure how long you can safely cook them prior or how I'd keep them warm without any catering equipment

Was going to do a few quorn dogs in case of veggies but same thing

I really don't want to end up making anyone ill... I'd have stuck with sandwiches and made the night before but realised my fridge will be full with birthday cake and drinks as it is

On the morning il be blowing up balloons and decorating so whatever I do I need super fast and super cheap! Any suggestions or tips on safely feeding an army of 5 year olds?

I shouldn't worry too much....

I worked in a movie theatre in the States for a while, behind the concession stand.

Hot dogs went onto the rotary thing first thing in the morning. They stayed there all day and if they hadn't sold, they went in the fridge over night & then back on in the morning. 🤢

Grim, but should put your mind at rest re poisoning anyone with them!

I've only ever served snack food along the lines Dilly suggests above at parties - maybe with some fruit kebabs, sandwiches or vege sticks to impress lurking parents make me feel better. Can't go wrong. Attempting hot food - let alone in a hall with no cooking facilities is over complicating things!

I'm going with pizza now... can't poison anyone with a cold cheese and tomato!

Has the facility got a sockets? If so take take a slow cooker on high or a camping gas stove

MrsOverTheRoad · 30/07/2017 14:54

What's wrong with sandwiches? Simple ones...jam, cheap ham (five year olds wont care)? Much easier!

MrsOverTheRoad · 30/07/2017 14:55

Agree cold hotdogs will be vile btw.

MrsOverTheRoad · 30/07/2017 14:56

Why no sandwiches OP? What have you got against them!? Grin

Five year olds usually prefer cocktail sausages anyway.

Partybrain · 30/07/2017 19:06

I have an aversion to sandwiches Grin didn't see the posts which were deleted...

Borrow a slow cooker! I regularly do huge batches for events at church. Plug slow cooker in as soon as you arrive. Put in sausages without their brine, and just cover with boiling water. Takes about 30/40 mins, but can wait as long as you like or be speeded up with a blast in the micro first.

They are already cooked, so you won't get food poisoning.

Just do several large rectangular margheritas, cut into squares and serve with carrot & cucumber sticks and cherry tomatoes. Everyone will eat it and it doesn't matter if it's cold!
