....to steal a changing room at the pool?

So our family of four (mum, dad and two toddlers) went to the swimming baths. When we were all done in the pool we went hunting for a family cubicle to get changed, the first one we entered had a sports bag of gear in there (my other half commented that they probably didn't want to buy a token for the lockers), so we went and walked around the rest of the changing area - all the rest of the family cubicles were in use, so we went back into the one with the sports bag, moved it to the edge of the cubicle and started drying ourselves.

About two minutes after we started to towel the kids off a man knocked on the door and asked if there were any things in the cubicle, I said there was. He was then pretty incredulous telling us that it was his cubicle and asking if we'd finished in there so he could finish using it. I explained that this was the only free family one, that it was devoid of people for at least five minutes since we trekked around the changing area, and handed his stuff back.

So, were we in the wrong to deprive this gentleman of his reserved cubicle? I thought we were perfectly reasonable, but the sheer incredulousness of the man makes me think that I'm probably detatched from reality.

I don't think you were right. Someone did this to me once. Son at swimming lesson. Right before the end of the lesson I went down and got a cubicle, putting sons stuff in there. Went to side of pool to get son, went back to cubicle and a dad and child had nipped in there. If they weren't quick enough to get down there in order to get a cubicle, they shouldn't pinch someone else's.]]

But they were actually ready to use the cubicle, your son wasn't. Don't try and reserve a cubicle your not actually using. If we all did this, there wouldn't be any cubicles available at all when you need one.

He's lucky his stuff wasn't nicked and you were able to keep an eye on it for him

I'm with you here. The only other side of this is when young child needs the toilet just as the other child is half dressed. The parent conundrum of being polite to others or child wetting themselves. Could leave one child in the cubicle alone but that is asking for problems!

Yanbu. People do this all the time at my son's swimming club. Just leave their stuff in there the whole time. We regularly use their changing room and they never find us because they are swimming Angry so selfish.

You can't bagsie a cubicle except by actually being in it getting changed.

To the PP who does this, you are in the wrong, you shouldn't try to claim a cubicle until you/your son are ready to use it. Serves you right if someone else gets there first!

I'm always tempted to dump stuff left in cubicles in the puddles on the floor but I'm too nice
