To dislike British weather

I do love the U.K.; this is not a critical thread about all of it.

But the weather is awful. Muggy damp summers, warm wet winters.

Or is it just my pocket of the country that's like this?

Agree bloody hate it. All seasons today. Cold, rainy, sunny and now cold again.

Bloody bastard weather

amusedbush · 27/07/2017 13:25

Not just you. I ask myself several times a year why I still live here!

There is about a week in October where it's cool and crisp and I'm happy. That's it. Rain all summer, pitch black all winter. Shite.

Phosphorus · 27/07/2017 13:27

The winters have certainly been horribly warm for the last five years or so. I haven't even needed a coat, just a fleece most of the time.

The sumners have been very sunny in the S.E. - they just tend to go on too long.

There's hardly an autumn any more, just ridiculous heat, then grey muggyness from October to April.

Banania · 27/07/2017 13:27

YABU. we envy your British summers over here in Ireland. Many of you seem to get decently warm summers!

Ireland is where the weather is properly shit.

thefalloutwillbeawful · 27/07/2017 13:28

Me too. Love the blue sky breezy 23 degrees days. Hate the hot polluted mugginess of where I live. Hot and overcast Angry.

Tuesdaysun · 27/07/2017 13:30

One of my Irish friends insists it's much better over there!

Apart from the never ending dampness of some parts of the country we don't have it bad, really. No winters of 4' of snow, hurricanes are rare, we don't have unbearable 40 degree summers.

It's about 17 degrees and overcast with a brisk breeze here, today. We had to hold on tight to our sandwiches when we had lunch in the park, but apart from that, perfect.

MsHarry · 27/07/2017 13:31

Well it was going well until we broke up from school! I like British weather, love the change in seasons. Bit miffed with this rain today but it has been a very dry spring and early summer.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/07/2017 13:49

It's the unpredictability that I hate most. It can be glorious all week when you're stuck at work and piss it down all weekend. It can be cold and wet in August and warm and sunny in October.

I remember two spells in March in consecutive years, where one year it was beach weather and the next year nearly a foot of snow fell at the same time.

I just want it to be more predictable and consistent so if you plan something outdoors, you've more chance of this coinciding with the nice weather.

It's far from great. It's mild though, and safe. I've lived in extreme climates (35-40 degrees every day, often even in winter and hurricanes) and then countries with a winter that's so cold that you have to wear fat on your face to stop it from freezing and it lasts 8 months of the year. I'd much rather our seasons were like New York or parts of Canada but hey, at least it doesn't kill us and gives us something to moan about

Belindarocks · 27/07/2017 14:02

Go to northern France most summers and weather is awful there too. Wish the inlaws had moved somewhere warmer! Find it bizarre that every French village seems to have an outdoor swimming pool when it's only hot a few days a year ( usually in June when the pools don't open till July!).

rainbowbreeze123 · 27/07/2017 14:20

It wouldnt be so bad if the shops sold all season clothes all year instead of still insisting we have set seasons !

BarbaraofSeville · 27/07/2017 14:25

Belinda We have a heated outdoor pool not too far from us (in the UK) and the March heavy snowfall I mentioned above coincided with it's opening one year:

www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/news/hundreds-brave-freezing-temperatures-at-hathersage-pool-1-5537768

It was the same day that all the garden furniture appeared at Ikea.

But YY to clothes being available all year round a bit better - I've lost count of the number of times it's started to get proper hot in July and you go to buy some summer clothes only to find the tail ends of the summer ranges competing with autumal jumpers and boots.

Koalablue · 27/07/2017 14:29

We are in the middle of a freezing winter right now. Logged on to Facebook the other day and my cousin the north England was saying how lovely the weather was. We were getting the same temperatures.

Letitrain · 27/07/2017 14:30

We've had unbearable heat in the south east for week after week. It's finally raining and the grass has gone green again. I'm really liking it.

The80sweregreat · 27/07/2017 14:57

The weather has been odd ( south east) so hot the last few weeks, really hot and even people that like it were moaning.
been rainy and humid since the children broke up for summer hols.
today has been showers, then sunshine.
