A gp wouldn't be allowed to refuse to discuss a termination with a patient so why should a pharmacist refuse to prescribe the MAP? The patient isn't even pregnant-it's precautionary. It's really pisses me off when I read things like this, it's just another example of things being made really difficult for women when they shouldn't be.

Don't think it's just limited to pharamasists.

I've taken the morning after pill 3 times and got the third degree twice.

Both times before the people had even asked why I needed it. So anyone who had been a rape victim or scared or alot younger and more vulnerable than I was would have probably walked out or felt a million times worse than I did.

It's shocking that things haven't changed much all these years later and people still feel justified in making their opinions blatantly obvious the second they meet you.

Getting the MAP is embarrassing enough without facing that kind of attitude. I've also taken it three times. Two of those were close together due to a dodgy batch of condoms (can't help wonder if it's the same batch as the other poster!). Twice I was lectured and looked down upon despite all 3 times being genuine contraception failures. You can almost hear the eyes rolling as well as see them. Doubt I'll ever need it again but I might pre empt by just saying I couldn't be arsed to use anything seeing as they assume it anyway.

It doesn't really matter if you 32 or 17, married or single you should not have been treated in this way. Even if she did have a religious belief which prevented her from dispensing she should have referred you to a colleague or suggested another chemist who could assist. ( the same with the pharmacists at Boots referred to upthread ). I've never experienced this with a pharmacist but I have had a GP refuse to dispense the MAP because of his religious beliefs but he wasn't rude about it ( although I still fell like a " sinner" !)

Im a pharmacist. It's really inappropriate to treat you as you described. By law, pharmacists can refuse to provide emergency contraceptive services due to their beliefs. BUT they are still required to treat you with dignity and refer you to another service. That's an ethical requirement of their position. Sorry this happened, you should report the individual

Once the person was polite and once they weren't . Fortunately I drive and was confident enough to go somewhere else.
I'm a therapist, I also have personal beliefs, t don't refuse or limit treatment to others on the basis of my own beliefs. I really believe strongly that if your beliefs limit your ability to do your job, then you are in the wrong job.
