AIBU or the woman??

I was recently changing to swim in my local leisure. Woman aged about 70 comes up and says 'hi I'm Dave and Laura green's mum (not real names) from St martins Sunday school (not real name). She basically went to my church and her kids went to my school. She is over 70 now. I said hello and acknowledged her but then moved away and into the pool as I don't like this woman - I've got enough evidence to believe she's a nosey gossip 2 traits I despise.
Anyway few weeks later I was at same pool change rooms and talking quite freely and in a friendly way to some ladies aged around 70 so 1 Generation above me. Next thing shower curtain opens and Nosey Gossip struts out saying 'Hello Acapella' in a very obviously sarky wag while strutting past me. AIBU or NoseyGossip??

She probably has a thread on here about getting snubbed by an uppity, middle-aged cow at the swimming. Grin

I'm lost. Confused

Strokethefurrywall · 26/07/2017 18:46

Sweet baby Jesus. Please, for the love of all things good and pure... Get. A. Life.

Can people really not live their lives without resorting to AIBU for the most ridiculous of things?

YABU for starting such a pointless fucking thread...

Bluntness100 · 26/07/2017 18:48

What confuses me is you clearly don't personally know this woman, she had to introduce herself, yet you have her down as a nosey gossip, which I can only assume , as you don't personally know her, is from info you yourself garnered from your own nosey gossip. You've then made a decision based on this nosey gossip that you indulged in that you don't like her.

Is this correct? Can you in any way see the irony there?

HotNatured · 26/07/2017 18:49

Possibly the most boring post I've ever read on MN. And there have been many contenders for that title.

So for that accolade alone

YABU

Jackiebrambles · 26/07/2017 18:51

Bluntness I was going to say the same about 'gossip'. Ironic!

acapellagirl · 26/07/2017 18:52

I admit this is trivial and I have too much time on my hands today. I think though there was a subtlety to the interaction that wasn't conveyed well by me possibly so fair enough it comes across AIBU. It is a trivial matter to be fair and I wish I hadn't started this thread no 😆

Thread now!!**

Redglitter · 26/07/2017 18:52

You have far too much time on your hands if you think this is an issue. Maybe she just said hello and kept walking because she saw you were talking to other people.

I think without question YABU

JackTwist · 26/07/2017 18:53

This thread ain't worth the screen I'm reading it on or something...

acapellagirl · 26/07/2017 18:54

No it's not correct Bluntness she worked with a close family member And this person said she always asking questions about me !

OP posts:
acapellagirl · 26/07/2017 18:56

Red glitter - I've fully admitted too much time on hands but anyway thread is non event!!

MsJamesDeanBradfield · 26/07/2017 18:57

What the fuck? I don't get it.

CoughLaughFart · 26/07/2017 18:58

The clue here is that the OP says she was 'talking freely' to these other women - in other words, saying something she didn't want someone with a reputation for gossip to hear.

Well sorry OP, but that was your own fault. Remember what they say about careless talk.

Gazelda · 26/07/2017 18:59

Hang on. What? You're suggesting people of around 70yo are generally nosey gossips? Have i understood that right?
She wasn't being unreasonable. You weren't being unreasonable. But you are now.

acapellagirl · 26/07/2017 19:01

Cough - no talking freely did not mean gossip
in this case just general talk about our own livee - cos we had no people in common

OP posts:
acapellagirl · 26/07/2017 19:03

Gazelda - no the age thing was purely to do with the fact that I was friendly to other people her age which means I can happily talk to people of other generations

Crumbs1 · 26/07/2017 19:04

You wouldn't like our village. We talk to everyone even strangers because we don't see many people on the average day. Neighbours walk up the drive just to say hello for no real reason but a mug of tea. Complete strangers knock and ask to use the loo or make a phone call. I give out ice lollies to passing DofE teenagers if it's hot.
Why would you not say hello to someone you used to know?

acapellagirl · 26/07/2017 19:06

Crumbs - but I did say hello if you read my post it's just I think she was offended because I stalled a longer discussion iyswim.
Anyway I appreciate there was a sort of subtlety and prior history that perhaps I was unable to convey and yes I agree it was a trivial issue

MargaretTwatyer · 26/07/2017 19:10

Bluntness she worked with a close family member And this person said she always asking questions about me

So basically, you and your family member gossiped about her? And you are judging her for being a gossip. Riiiiight.

SoPassRemarkable · 26/07/2017 19:13

Oh I had this recently.

Older woman in the village came over and said "do you remember me, I'm Sue who used to live three doors from your parents 20 years ago"

And do you know what I did?

I asked her how she was, what her kids were doing now, asked if she had grandkids, asked if she still enjoyed caravanning.

Can't say I was that interested but I can fake interest. Took five mins out my life and is far politer than saying hello and walking away.

CoughLaughFart · 26/07/2017 19:15

So actually you think she was giving you a 'knowing smile' or similar because you didn't stop to talk to her, but you did to the Golden Girls? I honestly doubt she read that much into it.

Notknownatthisaddress · 26/07/2017 19:22

That's sweet @sopassremarkable. And just what any normal person would do!

Notknownatthisaddress · 26/07/2017 19:23

YANBU OP! What a horrible old cow she was; being all friendly and chatty and nice and sociable! Good grief!!! Angry

What an actual bitch. Angry

SERIOUSLY, that's 3 minutes of my life I will never get back! Sad
