Parking... but a bit rubbish so don't get too excited

I am sorry this isn't going to involve penguin bollards or toeing cars or nar/fonar.

Am I being unreasonable to be annoyed by people not pulling into there drive fully (so they can open and close the garadge without mooving there car) and in doing so blocking the pavement so I have to take my pram in the road? It is really getting to me and I am not shore if I just need sum perspective.

Attached is areal view of naughty blue car and lovely well behaved red, orange and pink cars... and lovely green lawns.

I would discretely kick it every time I went past.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/07/2017 16:14

I love that diagram. It's very moderne Grin

It's annoying that their drives aren't long enough. Still no excuse!

SarahJonesS · 25/07/2017 16:26

As a pushchair user, nope yanbu.

I very nearly stuck a note on a car which kept parking on the street. It was legally parked but they pretty much parked on the entire pavement. The other cars only just had their wheels on the pavement. This was a pain for me as I couldn't cross the road and walk on the other side to avoid it as it was really busy, and due to where I was heading there was no other route, so I had to walk into the road to get round the car. Eventually I wrote a note intending to stick it under the wiper. All very polite just asking if they could refrain from parking over the entire path but it wasn't there the next time I went and has never returned.

MyProperTea · 25/07/2017 16:27

I am very tempted to kick it, especially having just seen a mobility scooter bump down the curb and wobble all over the place!

That's a strangely pleasing diagram which more than makes up for the slightly dull thread content.

YANBU. However, I can sympathize with the pokey-out car parking too, just a little bit.

Do you have to go onto the road to get around it? If so then that's not safe and perhaps you could chase it up with the local parking enforcement people - it would probably be more effective than just kicking it.

On reflection there is nothing wrong with doing both. 🤔

LakieLady · 25/07/2017 16:53

YANBU. Not even a tiny bit U.

Not only does it inconvenience people and force them to walk in the road it looks very untidy.

MyProperTea · 25/07/2017 21:57

I have emailed the council....

The subtle kick has been discounted as I need to set a good example for dh, who is not subtle and escalates things.

If they are leaving it parked there when home rather than just leaving it while actually opening/closing garage then nope YANBU. it's very frustrating when people can't be arsed to park well.

MyProperTea · 25/07/2017 22:11

It is there all the time. I wouldn't have balls in case somone scratched it!

Full marks for the user name as well OP!

MyProperTea · 26/07/2017 09:36

Today somone else has stepped up. The house next door to annoying blue car house had a visitor last night, they are still there with there car parked at the bottom of the drive, but not in the road... Half on the pavement! Can I fit my buggy down the pavement? Can I hell.

Some people just want to watch the world burn!

Polite note first? It's worth a try!

MyProperTea · 26/07/2017 11:13

Update...highways agency say it is council or police matter. Local council say it is highways or police matter...

Don't want to bother the police so have opted for a snotty note.

Articu · 26/07/2017 12:56

Try a nice polite note first. Generally works better than snotty or PA notes in my experience 📝

Onetedisbackinbed · 26/07/2017 13:41

YANBU. This is infuriating. My old NDNs OW used to park badly in his driveway. Used to totally hack me off .... though I expect his wife found her rather inconsiderate also

SnickersWasAHorse · 26/07/2017 13:45

When you buy a car surely you should check that it fits on the drive?

JacquesHammer · 26/07/2017 14:06

The lady next door to me does that which people don't like.

The situation is compounded by the fact that we all own the verges up to the road edge, so in fact we "own" the pavement.

Its ridiculous and causes people to mutter when they complain to her and she says "actually, would you mind not walking on my land"

Cadsuane · 26/07/2017 15:05

I did see the police knocking on someones door for parking like this. Well I assume it was this as one officer was knocking the door and the other was standing beside the car looking at it in a very serious manner. I could have waited to see what happened but no convenient bus stops so had to keep going.

Cadsuane · 26/07/2017 15:15

I "wish I" could have..

StormTreader · 26/07/2017 15:34

I used to have a walk as part of my commute that had a very spiky prickly bush over half the pavement. There was ALWAYS a car parked right up against it, blocking the other half.

I was very sorely tempted to have a load of "Pavement, not Parking!" stickers printed up to adorn the windshield.

JacquesHammer · 26/07/2017 17:49

Suspect easiest thing for us would be to remove the small bit of "pavement" that covers our three houses

ComputerUserNotTrained · 26/07/2017 18:31

This isn't a rubbish parking thread AT ALL.

I suggest fashioning some kind of scythed chariot mod for your pram (disclaimer: this might render your pushchair unsuitable for the transportation of actual children).
