To expect a jacket from Hobbs to survive dry-cleaning

Posting this message here as not had much response in Clothes & style!

I bought a jacket from Hobbs for my daughters wedding (along with dress shoes and bag). Had to take the jacket to the cleaners after the wedding as it had a food stain. Stain was removed however, the jacket was covered in bobbles (bit like pilling on a jumper) and you can see the lycra is coming away from the material.

Cleaner say the material is a problem and was probably not really suitable for dry cleaning. The jacket now looks a mess and worn-out.

I shall be taking it back to Hobbs but wondered if anyone else has experienced this with material which has lycra in it.

Thanks

Don't know, but I spent a hundred quid on an acrylic jumper from Hobbs which didn't survive one wash. I'd look very carefully at the fabric and the care instructions before buying from them again.

Man made fibres from other shops are bomb proof, why should expensive stuff shrink?

Penny4UrThoughts · 25/07/2017 08:56

What did the cleaning instructions say?

What circle symbol is on the care label? That's the dry cleaning one.

It's important to know what the care label suggests. If it says it's dry clean then contact them. If not suitable for dry cleaning, then really the dry cleaner should have said.

It sounds like the fabric is of poor quality, you should definitely speak to Hobbs customer services if it specified dry clean on the label.

Can you put a photo on?

I have always found Hobbs very good for returning items, and not questioning the customer's account of what happened

Choirgirl30 · 25/07/2017 10:43

It definitely has a P for dry cleaning, cleaner said he followed the instructions on the label.

If there's a small line under the circle it's needs specialist treatment and I would think your argument would be with the dry cleaners.

Then again, if Hobbs is particularly good at accepting returns and it's the easiest option tbh I'd go down that route.

Just thought I would update, took the jacket back to Hobbs who refunded me the cost without any quibble! Has restored my faith in expensive retailers.
