We're planning a two week camping trip to Cornwall with a four and six year old. Ideally I would love sea views and would like to be able to walk down to the beach
Would you kindly share any special sites you have discovered. Oh, and keep your fingers crossed for good weather for me :-)

"See" you next week!!

We're off to Pentewan on Friday - we had to go into a lottery as soon as the pitches went on sale! You never know, there could be a cancellation though. We've been once before, at Easter time and we loved it! Really, really hope we get decent weather - it's been a horrible year for lots of reasons and I can't wait to sit at the beach bar with my kindle and cold beer while the kids play in the sea!

Treyarnon Bay is lovely but the campsite isn't. Has the feel of a car park and very basic.

Treyarnon Bay is lovely but the campsite isn't. Has the feel of a car park and very basic.

Isn't the idea of a campsite that it is 'basic'? Confused

jeaux90 · 25/07/2017 19:54

Mother Iveys is a short drive from treyarnon. Treyarnon is blessed with amazing rock pools and a natural swimming pool you can swim in at low tide. Constantine is beautiful and a short walk across the top from treyarnon. Mother Ivey and Harlyn are safer beaches in terms of the water/rips etc but then they are all life guarded in high season anyway with marked swim areas. Enjoy. It's a gorgeous part of Cornwall.

IroningMountain · 25/07/2017 20:40

There are lovely basic campsites. This isn't one of them. Sorry it just feels like a car park overspill. It's also in the middle of everything.Much prefer other sites in the area.

ClarkWGriswold · 25/07/2017 20:44

Beachside in Hayle is lovely and has a swimming pool on site. We've stayed in lodges before so I don't know how quickly they get booked up for camping.

RuncibleSp00n · 25/07/2017 20:58

KickedOut ...did we meet at Easter at Mother Ivey's by any chance?! In the playground by the zip wire? And your DP has been going since he was little too? Sorry, probably not you. But v exciting to think we might've actually met IRL!!

PinkHeart5911 · 25/07/2017 21:01

Ayr campsite, St Ives.

You just walk down the hill to the beach & town, it's lovely

thickgit · 25/07/2017 23:08

Thank you so much. I'm so excited about the rock pools and waves etc. My children have never seen crystal clear water and it Cornwall feels like a totally different country!!

runcible pm'ed you.

But no not me at Easter, I only do summer!!

Met ferne and Phil in padstow one year, happily chatting to them on the quayside, kids chatting, thinking they were familiar, probably from the site, hope the bloody TV!!

GrabbyMcGrabby · 26/07/2017 13:44

Cheeky placemark for ideas. Grin

LogicallyLost · 26/07/2017 13:48

@Stickerrocks, live here and yes you have been, it's as whirlycurly said :)

RuncibleSp00n · 26/07/2017 21:22

Kicked Cheers for the PM; I've PMd you back!

I'll go one better in the MIB/Ferne & Phil front. My ILs bought their MIB caravan from Ferne & Phil! So I've actually breastfed my babies in Ferne Brittain's double bed! It was soooo hopelessly retro though so it went to the caravan park in the sky soon after (replaced by something oatmeal with a name like 'Balmorral' or 'Concept'). Grin

whirlycurly · 26/07/2017 21:38

Stickerrocks, I am a big fan of your bus stop and pass it on a daily basis Wink

BabychamSocialist · 26/07/2017 21:42

Watergate Bay and Trevarrian are favourites of ours. You have two beaches within walking distance of the sites and they have good facilities. Mawgan Porth is the better beach for sunbathing, swimming and that kind of thing, whereas Watergate Bay is more suited to surfing and sports.

EezerGoode · 26/07/2017 21:50

Just come back from that neck of the woods.wish I lived there..praa sands is worth a look x

Stickerrocks · 27/07/2017 06:51

Tue-chew-tue-chew? Family now think I'm weird wandering round trying to spot the difference out loud.

thickgit · 28/07/2017 22:54

TreveDra and ayre were fully booked but there was space at mother Ives Bay and Pentewan.
In the end we went for Treyarnon for a week and Chy Carne for a week. I intend to visit many of the campsites you kindly precommended and will use Pentewan a couple of days probably (£5 a day, but not the use of the swimming pool)

once again, thanks so much for your ideas. I can't wait and am planning to book my son a surfing lesson!!

Harlyn bay surf school is great and right near mother iveys. Enjoy!!

Lexieblue · 30/07/2017 00:22

Harlyn Sands is amazing and has a lovely beach, in the morning it's very quiet and cut off from the main Harlyn beach when the tides in, in the afternoon you can walk right around rocks to main beach. Site is lovely as well we are going in 2 weeks and can't wait!

Great tips, noting for next hols, thanks

MauiBrideWithLemonDrizzle · 30/07/2017 01:29

If you are around Padstow or Newquay area try Carnevas Holiday Park. It is right by the gorgeous Porthcothan Bay, a fantastic cove safe for bathing, surfing, body boarding, with rock pools and a shop cum cafe. Also dog friendly. Nearby are Bedruthan Steps, Trevose Hay, Treyarnon Bay and Padstow is about 7 miles away. Plenty of pubs that do nice pasties and cream teas too. Plus real Cornish ice cream.
