To not know where to start when it comes to work

Both my children are now at school. I am a sahp. Due to circumstances it is not possible for me to get a job outside the home, I want to do something to bring some money in to help my DH with the finances and I also feel I need to do something for my own MH. I have no clue where to start or what to do though. Do you work from home? If so, doing what?

Why can't you work outside the home?

Childminder ??

I live quite rurally, a few miles from the nearest village. 2 hours from the nearest city. My youngest has SN and while she's goes to school, I still have to commit to lots of hours of therapy time through the week during her school hours. Also, has random sick days. I have no help/family near me to help so it's all down to me. There is no childcare near me either. So really the hours that I can give to work have to be completely on my terms. That's why I can't really get a job where I would have to have set hours. It's difficult!

Coming at it from a similar angle to HeyMicky - can you do anything practical; like altering clothes/hemming curtains etc?

If not a practical thing, then online is your best bet. If there's anything you're particularly skilled at, look into whether there are freelance opportunities. Have a google around 'crowdsourcing freelance' - I believe there are sites where someone will put up a description of the job they want doing, and then I think you pitch for it and then get paid on completion. I've not looked into it in any depth, but it would be something that could fit around your unpredictable schedule.

Lastly, if you have any skills in making things, there's always etsy/ebay/other online retail sites. You'd need to get out to the post office fairly regularly, but otherwise that's an option.

Hi, thanks for your replies.

I am quite crafty so I like the idea of making and selling. Which would also fit nicely around my daughter's needs. Thanks so much for the suggestions. Smile
