The KFC advert is a bit wrong?

It's a chicken advertising fried chicken! It doesn't make me fancy fried chicken and I feel the chicken is a bit taken advantage of, advertising it's own fate. I'm expecting some 'kill it eat it' fans to disagree but is it in bad taste? Or is any publicity good publicity?

Do you eat meat?

Onetedisbackinbed · 23/07/2017 21:54

Yes I do, surprised at the advertising though

I know I thought this too. And the chicken seems pretty happy to become human food. Or maybe he is just oblivious to it. Either way i do think its in bad taste. But then again I would still eat kfc Smile

BootsWithDresses · 23/07/2017 21:57

I've not seen the advert but I think a lot of meat eaters like to ignorant to what they're really eating. My friend won't buy roast chicken because it looks too much like a chicken.

A chicken advertises its death. Little baby chicks get thrown into a grinder. If you're eating said meat then stuck it up.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 23/07/2017 21:59

It's probably disturbing for those who haven't made the connection between chicken and fried chicken.

For the rest of us who understand that bargain buckets begin life with two legs and a beak, it's not really an issue...

monkeyfacegrace · 23/07/2017 22:01

I love the advert. I find it really amusing Grin

I agree, it is really horrible, and seems designed to encourage vegetarianism

Onetedisbackinbed · 23/07/2017 22:12

As I said I expected the 'kill it eat it' posters, but this is an obscure choice for an advert .... from advertisers. ... who are looking to encourage KFC consumption. So is is any publicity good publicity?

I thought it was strange. I love KFC and have managed to 'disassociate' the animal from the meal. This advert reinforces the connection.

What next? McDonalds and a talking cow?

From Marketing Week

www.marketingweek.com/2017/07/19/mark-ritson-kfc-ad/

That’s clearly a problem for KFC because they are now transgressing one of the oldest rules of meat marketing with their new campaign. You can show the raw meat glistening on the plate. You can have as many long lingering shots of the joint coming out of the oven as you like. You can even have a small army of relatives sitting round the family table eating away.

But thou shalt not show the actual beast in question at any point or risk alerting the happily hypocritical carnivore that the little life in front of them is about to get carved up to satisfy their hunger

DoJo · 23/07/2017 23:08

Chick-Fil-A has a whole campaign based on this with cows trying to convince people to eat more chicken:

LittleBooInABox · 24/07/2017 06:15

I highly doubt KFC are trying to encourage vegetarianism. Unless there marketing director has some serious hatred for his job. Kfc doesn't really cater to vegetarians anyway.

I think it's amusing that it bothers people.

Veterinari · 24/07/2017 06:50

I'd suggest it's a bit misleading since meat chickens are more likely to look like this - leg breakages, overgrown breasts and much younger as they're slaughtered at 42days

Dancingfairy · 24/07/2017 10:30

I don't like it and it doesn't make me want to eat KFC, chicken is the only meat I eat so would be easy for me to stop, my kids like it though surprisingly!

Spuddington · 24/07/2017 10:32

I think it's missed the mark really.

Not going to get into the meat is murder debate though.

Shockers · 24/07/2017 10:38

Veterinari, perhaps that's the idea- to suggest to consumers that KFC serve previously healthy and happy chickens.

Wouldn't touch the stuff myself.

Veterinari · 29/07/2017 19:09

But they don't Confused

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/07/2017 19:18

It's a chicken. It's an unusual choice for an advert because apparently people who eat dead animals don't like to think about something having been killed for their dinner.

I think it's quite funny but then I don't eat dead animals.

I always felt the Ribena ads where the cute berries wanted to go to the Ribena factory were a bit sick tbh.
