So Mil asked me what I got for my 21st
"Drawers" I say. She looked amused and thought I was talking about the underwear!!!

It was the storage variety for my bedroom not undergarment!!

She probably thought a 21 year old would be more likely to get fun undies for a major birthday than a set of storage drawers. I have to say, I concur!

Salmotrutta · 22/07/2017 23:42

Well, it is a slightly unusual 21st present!

Migraleve · 22/07/2017 23:46

I don't think it's old fashioned as such but perhaps more practical than most. I have a friend who is very practical thinking and she buys her grandchildren things like duvets sets and furniture as part of their Christmas and birthdays. I never really understand because if mine need (or I just see) something I just buy it. It wouldn't cross my mind to give furnishings as a present

mortificado · 22/07/2017 23:49

I brought myself some actual drawers a while ago for the bedroom and when telling mum about my recent purchase she said "oh how much did you pay? I just brought some lovely ones from m&s for only £3.00"
I was a bit Hmm until I cottoned on to what she meant Grin
Silly old bugger

acapellagirl · 23/07/2017 04:29

Haha no I know looking back I thought it was indeed a very boring present !!

I have a friend who was given the choice between an antique desk or a party for her 21st. She chose the desk.

I was like, wow - you were so much more mature at 21 than I was! Grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/07/2017 05:10

Isn't it a chest of drawers? Hence the confusion.

BarbaraBitchFace · 23/07/2017 07:00

Yes I would never say just drawers. I would call it a chest of drawers or a set of drawers.

The more you write the word drawers the weirder it looks.

blueteapot · 23/07/2017 07:51

Mortificado.... 'until I cottoned on' Grin

Housewife2010 · 23/07/2017 08:25

Isn't it Chester draws?😁

acapellagirl · 23/07/2017 08:56

Lol yes should've used chest of or set of drawers lol either way - functional/boring 21st present!!

I asked for and got a cast iron stewpot for my 21st. On my 24th I got a dehumidifier and I'm going to ask for another one this year as it died.

acapellagirl · 23/07/2017 11:34

Ah Yorkshire - you can't beat pragmatism!!
