JonSnowsWhore · 21/07/2017 20:45

If it had a face obviously...

How dare it make my poor baby's first few months of life so bloody miserable for him, the evil shit!

Really struggling tonight Sad

That is all.

Is gripe water a month or 2 months? He's 8 weeks now so I suppose he should be able to have it, I'll get some tomorrow!

Have just managed to get him to take a bottle & stop screaming, I put that gaviscon powder in it.

Praying he will stay asleep in his crib once I put him in it tonight, usually if he wakes up once he's been put down then he won't settle unless I let him lay on me. I have a horrible cold & am absolutely sweating so need some space tonight haha

Maybe the gaviscon is the answer!! If not maybe try the Dr Brown bottles (can get next day from Amazon prime)? Hoping you find the right remedy soon!

Swizzlegiggle · 21/07/2017 22:07

I think you can use gripe water from 4 weeks. It's brilliant at bringing up some very impressive burps!

JonSnowsWhore · 21/07/2017 22:10

Excellent I'll get some tomorrow then. I have a babies r us round the corner from us so if all else fails I can go round there whenever & have my pick of colic bottles (trust me to pick wrong last time)

Just wanted to say that it's worth having a look at the mam anti-colic bottles. I started using them yesterday for our very windy 3 week old and from the first feed with them she's gulping less and seems more settled...

JonSnowsWhore · 21/07/2017 22:17

I'm gonna end up with a very impressive collection of bottles!

At one point for DS I had 8 different bottles so I know that pain lop

YokoReturns · 22/07/2017 09:21

I second googling PURPLE crying.

There is some research to suggest that colic is nothing to do with trapped wind etc. and is to do with babies moving from 'brain stem' breathing to 'conscious' breathing (the type that allows us to control speech), and it triggers a kind of 'crying vicious circle' in babies.

Whatsername17 · 22/07/2017 09:37

Colief! Honestly, give it a try. I think comfort milk does the same. Dd2 didn't have colic but we had the PURPLE crying - it is very, very different to colic. With colic, they are in pain. With purple crying the cry is less severe. For dd1, it was lactose in the milk which is why the colief worked. She was sensitive to lactose but grew out of it.

Spuddington · 22/07/2017 09:42

Mam bottles, infacol, warm baths and deep breaths.

It's really shite but it will eventually pass.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/07/2017 09:49

Awww bless him and you. The poor little mite. Thankfully my dd never got it. She got wind, but Every baby gets wind. Cholic is entirely different to wind.
I remember my little sister used to get it (colic) and she'd scream in agony. And bring her little legs up.
((((((((((((((((()))))))))))))))))))

ChangeCat · 22/07/2017 14:07

It's a horrible horrible time but it will pass.

Tiger in the tree position and music soothed mine a bit.

By 4 months the colic had gone completely.

Hang in there Flowers

JonSnowsWhore · 24/07/2017 09:11

Sorry been a busy couple of days! Went to get some colief yesterday but when I read it, it pretty much does the same as the aptamil comfort milk that he's already on so for £16 I didn't think it was worth it. He's got gripe water though & it did bring up a bit of wind & he didn't scream much yesterday evening. During the night though is a different story 😫 in so tired I was just crying in the middle of the night like a loon.
Hopefully with combination of the milk & gripe water will start fully kicking in soon. For those people who've said about the PURPLE crying & it maybe not being colic, I've had a read but I do think it is, as he seems to settle a bit once he finally gets rid of some, and I can feel his little belly really hard so that must be uncomfortable for him 🙁

Also loving the 'tiger in a tree' description btw, cute.

Infacol and Dr Brown bottles helped me. I've got some spare Dr Brown bottles I was about to sell - you can always pm me if you'd like them.

ittakes2 · 24/07/2017 10:36

Cranial oestopathy helps. Although recommend you find one with specialtist cranial training. Nerves in neck get tight in small babies and it affects digestion. BUPA recognise this as a 'thing' and paid for my son to have cranial oesto.

Spuddington · 24/07/2017 10:43

Is it just evening and night crying? Colic can mask silent reflux, DD had both and ot drove me to the edge.

JonSnowsWhore · 26/07/2017 07:31

Had to come on & do a quick update, think we might be getting somewhere with this colic milk. He had a few screamy moment yesterday but not as bad as usual, & this morning he's woken up (although rather early for my liking) a lovely happy baby! He's smiled loads of times at me & his toys when usually we're lucky to get one smile a day as the poor thing has been so miserable. Hopefully this continues!

DoubleCarrick · 27/07/2017 11:54

Glad you seem to be getting somewhere!!

ALLthedinosaurs · 27/07/2017 12:16

Yanbu. Colic isn't fair. I'm going tongive another vote for colief. It was a life changer (well, it felt like it at the time 😉 )

ALLthedinosaurs · 27/07/2017 12:16

Purpleball · 27/07/2017 12:24

I went to the Gp for colief and advice. He suggested we try nutramigen for CMPA. It completely changed our lives. DS grew out of the CMPA and had cows milk in food for a while, then switched to drinking it from a year old

CuppaSarah · 27/07/2017 12:46

Ds was a colicy baby, it was awful and heartbreaking. When my supply dried up at 7 weeks we put him on colic formula and as long as we burped him thoroughly it went away! Got even better when he could go in a jumperoo as it jumped all his burps out with ease.

In the end we think he had a mild intolerance to lactose as he gets diarrhea when he's sick if he has any lactose.

MumsOnCrack · 27/07/2017 12:56

The MAM bottles are very good - perhaps try them?

Morphene · 27/07/2017 13:22

both infacol and gripe water are non-effective as proven by studies they don't exceed the placebo effect.

It pisses me off that they are allowed to keep trading and selling this BS to desperate parents.

Coleif is a different product with an actual possible mechanism of action...so can be worth a try.

Most cases of 'baby screams most of the day but doesn't barf or have silent reflux' are actually caused by developmental processes.

My DD was overstimulated and stopped crying when we stopped trying to engage so much with her. Dark rooms, bland colours, no noisy environments and she was a totally different baby.
