Trundle bed underneath single instead of bunk beds for boys sharing room?

Does anyone use a trundle bed (bed the pulls out from underneath another bed) permanently for children who share a room?

At the moment we have bunk beds but I am thinking of alternatives as they are shorty ones and I don't really want to buy full length bunk beds as boys are sharing a small room with low ceiling and the bunks already take up loads of room.

Would a normal size single with a good sturdy trundle underneath that we pull out every night be a solution? Does anyone else have this setup?

Depending on your budget you could try this company

They are on Facebook too. They make a lot of bespoke furniture for small rooms. You could have the bottom bunk on the floor and the second as high as a cabin bed and have built in storage.

Most trundle beds are flimsy and not really suitable for daily use unless you spend a fortune.

We have a bunk with a trundle under as we have 3 in one room. It's been perfect for our needs and a great space saver and the trundle is the same as a normal bed in terms of sturdiness and comfort (I've slept on it when playing musical beds).

Solid wood "day bed" with solid wood trundle bed here also..DS loves the trundle, DD loves the day bed. I sleep on the floor, for now. They find it comforting. If they want play room, it all pushes away for floor space.

When they're not here (shared care), I sleep on either. Not 100% ideal, but it works quite well.

The Thuja bunks above look great. DS has a Thuka cabin bed, still rock solid after 10 years and moving between rooms. Was looking at Thika bunks for our girls, but have decided to go for a single over a double arrangement

Don't think I said you'd put the child under the bed op! Grinnot sure where that idea came from???

I assumed the trundle would be beside the single at night, taking up all the floor space?

You do see lots of v imaginative solutions on Pinterest google etc with everyone still having a permanent bed. But sure they are your kids I guess. I can't see the room so hard to visualise really. Maybe it is more limited than I realise.

The high bed with another mattress on the floor underneath is a good idea.
My DGS has a trundle under his bed which serves as a guest bed.

Unless you live in a hobbit house surely the kura bunk from ikeas would fit (and be far cheaper than a good quality trundle!) I'm with the masses when I agree they need their own beds. Making them switch isn't fair, they don't have their own bed to lay claim to and they need that security. It could also lead to so much bickering as to who wants to sleep where as the trundle or real bed could be seen as a prize. With a bunk, no matter how much of an Eyesore, practically it's far more sensible.
