To be pissed off with nits?!

I have lost count of the amount of times I've had to de nit DS1 hair. He has asd and hates things being touched so to de nit is a big ordeal for him and me Wine
I understand at this age (4) they have it a lot but never thought I'd have to treat his hair weekly basically!
Anyone any tips? The treatment is so expensive, he is asthmatic so can only used certain types

Had you treated yourself before (or checked for them)? You could have been reinfecting each other

BugLady75 · 22/07/2017 20:31

I've just discovered nits on my DS! So spent the day bribing him whilst combing through his hair! Wasn't pleasant for anyone! I personally am happy to cut it off but bloody DP wants to keep it long, thick and curly! Hmm. Anyway, he has the delousing job tomorrow, no doubt he'll change his mind when he sees what a challenge it all is!
I've been doing the conditioner, a
couple of tea tree drops and nitty gritty comb. It's still very early days. Poor DS is still scratching away! As are me and DP! About to check our heads too!

Yes been treating myself , thought I'd check again tonight and found a little bastard 😭

Jesus I am dreading DS getting nuts when he starts nursery. Why are they so common these days?

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 22/07/2017 21:29

Gah. nits obv.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 22/07/2017 21:32

@younggirl because some parents don't bother ding their children's hair basically :( so they re infest others.
Ds is petrified of water etc but I still do him regularly with bribes

To be fair, I informed nursery DD had nits and they didn't care, and didn't put up a sign. So probably kids were infested and their parents had no idea. I texted every parent I knew but that's only 30% of the kids there. I still hope the manager gets nits, maybe then she will take it seriously Angry

Shave the head. Gone. My daughter is under threat that if she comes home with them again, that will be her fate.
You would shave your daughter's head because getting rid of nits is too much of a hassle for you? ShockShockShock

Realitysandwich1 · 23/07/2017 13:23

I nearly got my dd a crew cut - the school has made a continual fuss about nits and a notice nearly every week but no change!

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 23/07/2017 21:42

I feel like shaving my hair off tbh!

OP posts:
BugLady75 · 23/07/2017 22:15

Yup! Me and DP have them too! Today I slathered all our scalps in coconut oil with a few tea tree drops and left it in for a few hours. This killed a lot of the beasties but doesn't work on the eggs. AND your hair smells lovely (if you like coconut!)
The nitty gritty comb doesn't work on Afro hair! I could just hear my hair ripping as I tried it! So I'll try this more natural remedy for now but if I see any lice (not actually seen any in my hair, just DP's and DS's) then I'll opt for the Hedrin! Or shave my head! Wink

ILoveDolly · 23/07/2017 22:20

I hate nits and now I also hate long hair and also going to the hairdressers and being informed you have been given the gift of nits too. AngryConfusedBlush

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 23/07/2017 22:36

They are awful things 😡

OP posts:
Allthewaves · 23/07/2017 22:37

I shaved dc hair - 2 have sen. Trauma of shaving heads was less than trying to constantly comb. Hedrin once is bloody amazing. Bugger to get out but smothers everything

Starsandwishes · 23/07/2017 22:40

I find chemicals works only the over night ones though.

I don't understand why some don't Treat their kids it's not fair on their kids or others. Nit nurse will never be back.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 23/07/2017 22:54

@allthe my DS1 has asd and it is so traumatic for him so that's a good idea.

Ah I will try the overnight stuff. De nit my hair last night and I'm still constantly itching BlushBlush
