Can I ask much running do you do if you just want to keep fit?

I tend to become a bit obsessive and could easily end up running miles a day and then burning out. I want to keep fit, maintain my weight but not overdo it iyswim. Most stuff I read is about marathon training which I don't want to do. How much exercise do you do if you just want it to be a functional part of your life?

I don't normally run more than 5/6k at a time as I find this keeps my fitness ticking over nicely but it I have a specific event I am training for I would normally increase frequency or kms depending on what I am training for

I run 30-40 minutes, every other day, plus one long run every week. I'd worry about injury if I tried to do more. Ideally, I'd include some cross -training such as strength-work, swimming etc - but can't do this at the moment.

Good luck with your running!

I train to keep fit but I don't run exclusively - hardly at all in fact. Is running your only option?

I find that 3 runs per week of 4-6 miles keeps my fitness ticking over nicely and stops me gaining any weight

15-20 miles a week. Used to do a lot more. This is a good level for me- keeps me able to run (strong ligaments and so on) and keeps me trim. I could easily up the mileage if I wanted to start racing again. This level is for me a good balance and I don't feel I am risking overuse injuries.

These days boredom stops me from running more than max. 1 hr 15 at a time, and I include more weights, HIIT, barre and DVDs in my routine. I honestly feel ten times better for it.
