To ask what you do with disposable nappies on holiday?

Sashkin · 19/07/2017 03:35

I use cloth nappies usually, but we're going on our first trip away with DS in September and I can't really wash nappies in a hotel room so will be using disposables for the first time.

Do they just go in the bin in the hotel bathroom? Those bins are usually really small. Do I ask for a nappy sack when we check in? That seems a bit weird and TMI for the receptionist. Tell me what to do, I don't want the chambermaids thinking we're disgusting or weird.

We take nappy bags - just wet nappies we put in the bathroom bin tied up in a bag, any pooey nappies we take out with us (tied up tightly in a bag!) and find the first suitable bin as I don't want them hanging around in the room with us. Have sent husband out to find a bin if it's before bed. Now worried I'm doing it wrong!

MrsJayy · 19/07/2017 06:56

I heard a woman on holiday recently asking for another bathroom bin she had toddler twins im assuming for nappys. Why is asking for a nappy sack weird? Take pedal bin liners and your own nappy bags and just tie them up for the cleaners

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 19/07/2017 06:59

Put them in nappy bags and then take to the outside bin when you go out. I usually do this or the room ends up a bit smelly.

Spikeyball · 19/07/2017 07:20

Put them in nappy bags and put them in an outside bin when you go out or put the bags in a bag together and leave them with your other room rubbish. I would try to get any poo down the toilet.

Cupcakegirl13 · 19/07/2017 07:22

Nappy bags and outside bin same as at home Hmm

kaytee87 · 19/07/2017 07:23

We'll just put in nappy bags and empty the bin twice a day or take pooey ones straight out to a bin.

kaytee87 · 19/07/2017 07:26

cupcake what's with the Hmm? Op has said she doesn't use disposable nappies at home. Also I don't take mine straight outside at home. They go in nappy bags then nappy bin which is emptied regularly. So not everyone does the same thing Hmm

kaytee87 · 19/07/2017 07:27

Op don't spend lots of money on expensive nappies, we've found Aldi nappies to be just as good as any.

KimKardashiansArse · 19/07/2017 07:36

I chuck them in the bin. No nappy bags! There are bin liners and the bins are emptied every day. I used to clean rooms in a hotel and had to deal with much, much worse.

2nd the Aldi nappy reccomendation.

ScarletForYa · 19/07/2017 07:38

Buy nappy bags, the hotel won't have them!

Browntile · 19/07/2017 07:42

I wouldn't expect a hotel to
Provide nappy bags. They are v inexpensive to buy and take your own.

MissClimpsonsTypingBureau · 19/07/2017 07:44

What's with the Hmm? At home you can just pop outside and put them in the black bin. In a hotel getting outside is a major undertaking and you don't know where the bins are.

SarahJonesS · 19/07/2017 07:47

You can buy nappy sacks for 50p in Boots and supermarkets. Avoid pound shops as they are more expensive!

I do the same as most pp. Poo down the loo and nappies to an outdoor bin. I've stayed in hotels where the bins have not been emptied every day.

Toffeelatteplease · 19/07/2017 07:47

Decent thick nappy bags just dumped in the bathroom bin. Assuming maid service daily I never had a trouble with them smelling.

Toffeelatteplease · 19/07/2017 07:48

Not the cheap nappy sacks. They smell.

londonrach · 19/07/2017 07:53

Same as at home, nappy sack then in bin. Idll nappies are good.

TrojanWhore · 19/07/2017 07:57

"What's with the Hmm ? At home you can just pop outside and put them in the black bin"

It's because in the opening post, and the Hmm post, it was explained that OP doesn't use disposables at home-

This means she can't just do what she does at home.

Sashkin take a roll of nappy sacks (or any small bin bags). It's not an item hotels would routinely have.

Frazzled2207 · 19/07/2017 08:00

I take extra bin bags and lots
Of nappy bags. Nappies go in nappy bags them in the "extra" bin I have set up, then I dispose in the main rubbish area every few days.

londonrach · 19/07/2017 08:01

Nappy sacks are cheap from the supermarkets. Just get the value ones. They going in the bin doesnt matter if they bright pink with jewels on!

TurquoiseDress · 19/07/2017 08:09

Bring nappy sacks with you.

We put wet nappies in the bathroom bin in our room and dirty nappies elsewhere eg hotel toilets bin or a bin outside if we were going out.

It was fine, not complicated at all

howthelightgetsin · 19/07/2017 08:13

Yup I just wrap them up in themselves and put them in the bathroom bin which is emptied at least daily in a hotel. Usually we tie the bin bag up before housekeeping comes.
I know I can't talk because I use disposables (though I do use the biodegradable ones) but nappy sacks are just extra waste and what's the point?

SpecialStains · 19/07/2017 08:37

I use reusables too - when we're away I buy a pack of biodegradable disposables and just wrap them up in themselves. Don't use nappy bags, it's just an extra layer of plastic that will go to landfill or pollute the sea. An old carrier bag in the hotel bathroom will be fine and just take that to an outside bin each morning. Take it out sooner if particularly smelly!

Hope you have a nice trip away.

Ask the hotel?
