AIBU to be totally shocked by this?

I honestly thought it was much, much lower. Government target announced today is to get it down to 6%.

Sad

Fuckyduck Hahaha, mind your own. I think you'll find the selfish arsehole is you if you go out of your way to make random woman uncomfortable. For all you know, they might not even have the baby, in which case what does a cigarette matter? Alll about the circumstances.

ew1990 · 18/07/2017 22:04

Thank you pencils. So nice to not be judged for once 😌

FuckyDuck · 18/07/2017 22:05

I challenge any of you to spend 2 months in nicu, watching babies die because of choices their mothers made. Then you have the right to call me an arsehole.

If a pimp got your daughter pregnant, what the hell kind of mother are you?

PencilsInSpace · 18/07/2017 22:06

Shamelessness is a comparatively healthy reaction to being faced with all the shaming shit and yet still being unable to stop.

I worry more about the women who end up living a lie and whose self-esteem is in the toilet.

I don't care who you hate more. It's irrelevant.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/07/2017 22:06

@FuckyDuck I work with youth, she wasn't my child. But she was a lovely person who needed support and not arseholes judging her. You clearly have no idea how hard life is for some.

FuckyDuck · 18/07/2017 22:08

Mrs I dearly hope that by support you gave her nicotine patches

PencilsInSpace · 18/07/2017 22:08

Class doesn't distinguish babies health.

You have no clue.

ComputerUserNotTrained · 18/07/2017 22:11

FuckyDuck has been popping up on threads all over with her charming take on fellow humankind. It's certainly opened my eyes to how hateful some people are.

When I was pregnant I was one of the few non smokers under consultant care , and at one time I was the only nonsmoker in the ante natal ward. That says something

FuckyDuck · 18/07/2017 22:13

So because I feel people need to take responsibility for themselves and their situations, I'm a monster.

Right.... Hmm

PencilsInSpace · 18/07/2017 22:13

Not a clue.

Lj8893 · 18/07/2017 22:15

goose how did you know the smoking status of all the other women under consultant care?! Hmm

PencilsInSpace · 18/07/2017 22:15

Fuckyduck who do you think your ignorant righteous outrage is helping exactly? I can't see it doing anything but increasing your own blood pressure.

daisychainagain · 18/07/2017 22:15

It's disgusting. Seriously why would you harm your unborn baby in that way? Vile.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/07/2017 22:18

Oh no, you can 'feel people should take responsibility' - FEEL anyway you fucking like

But staring intimidatingly and coughing at pregnant poor women - that's what makes you a monster

PixieXox · 18/07/2017 22:18

I'm taking responsibility of my situation in the way that best suits me but you would probably still try and intimidate me if you saw me because you have a generalised view that doesn't take individual circumstances into account so yes.

Mind your own and if you really want to help the babies offer support and not a judgmental glare

ew1990 · 18/07/2017 22:18

Daisy have you ever had an addiction, I crave a cigarette 24/7. Pregnant or not doesn't stop you craving something your addicted to

sycamore54321 · 18/07/2017 22:19

I have never smoked in my life and hate smoking. I've lost close relatives to lung cancers.

I think one would be remarkably naive to be shocked at the one in ten figures for smoking in pregnancy. A moment's consideration should lead you to realise that not all pregnancies are much closer wanted and cherished by women in stress-free lives. Not all women are in a position where the word of an authority figure is to be obeyed. Not all women can or want to or need to put their baby absolutely first. That is before you even begin to consider the highly addictive nature of smoking.

I agree with those who said it is a feminist and classist issue. There are many other practices which are forcefully promoted by constituencies within mumsnet which have clear evidence of death or serious injury to unborn and newborn babies and because they are trendy middle class lifestyles, it is seen as the good thing to do. Home birth ignoring any risk factors, and co-sleeping are two that immediately spring to mind. But those low-class women standing outside the labour ward puffing away - they are disgusting. We are much better than them, and love or children much more, oh yes.

MNHQ: Our aim is to make parents' lives easier by pooling knowledge, advice and support.

10% of women are still smoking at the time they give birth. How many of them come here for support? Catch on to yourselves, eh?

ew1990 · 18/07/2017 22:22

Bullshit!

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/07/2017 22:23

Dummies and reins as well @sycamore54321

Middle class shit that affects children is A-OK.

notomatoes · 18/07/2017 22:27

Read the fucking thread fuckyduck.

This thread makes me want a fag. And it would be fuck all to do with you if I chose to have one.
