To think about buying a Nissan Figaro?

Would this be a b v bad buy?!

I'd be ferrying my 4 year old around in it all year round. Might want to do some long trips for holidays in it. I know nothing about mechanics so would be at the mercy of garages.

I should just get a little a normal little hatchback that's a few years old instead? Right?

No! Have your Figaro! Go for it.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 18/07/2017 07:32

I'd say go for a normal hatchback then save for a figaro to have just for fun is that a possibility?

hula008 · 18/07/2017 07:32

Have you seen the boot? You won't be able to get a suitcase in for holidays 😂

hula008 · 18/07/2017 07:33

Honestly though if you do get one do some serious research. They are especially prone to rust.

Dunkling · 18/07/2017 08:02

I have one.

Great little runners and very reliable. They have after all already been going for 25 years.

They ARE prone to rust. But no more over here than other cars..... this comes from their origins. SO buy a pristine one either barely used or already refurbed at cost, or have a do-er upper. I went for the middle spec. Going in this year for the rust work doing at a cost of £3k. Car £7 originally.

Fantastic for your little boy..... I managed to ferry 3 little kids in mine. They are all now gangle teens and young adults. THEY NO LONGER FIT lol. One front passenger is all I can carry.

Boot IS practically non exsistent. But you have the back seat as well seeing as it's too small for people, and of course even bigger in summer with top off.

But get one. SOOOOOO get one. Best fun drive EVER!!!!

greendale17 · 18/07/2017 08:03

Love those cars. Go for it!

NooNooMummy · 18/07/2017 08:09

OooH! I am fast becoming a Figaro expert - have heard about the rust thing...

So now I have 3x justifications: 1x they're all automatics and I'm a bit out of practice with stick shift, they're based on Micras and I learned to drive in a Micra in the early 90s so this will be familiar (Right?) and now I need to get it soon before my 4 year old gets too tall! 😀

I nearly got one as my first car, my insurance quotes were far too high though.

Dunkling · 18/07/2017 09:05

Tormunsbrow... really?

Mine is £175 plus brokers fee per year, so about £230. Go for a specialist classic car broker (their not classics but of the rather unknown statistics genre I suppose)

Also forgot, they hold their value, no depreciation as they get older.

The Micra thing... no more similar to a micra re driving than any other car. The Fig simply has it's engine and is roughly based on it. It does make it easier to find parts though if you don't feel the need to keep true to what it is (I do... these original parts can be found on Ebay) but otherwise Micra parts do the job mechanically wise.

NooNooMummy · 18/07/2017 09:11

Oh dear! not a bad word about them from anyone to bring me to my senses?
I feel a silly, impractical car purchase coming!

And if I bought a pink one, it would just scream "peri menopausal divorcee having a mid-life crisis!" Right?

Get one for me - I've alwayyyys wanted one! It'll have to wait a while in my case....Too many kids, too many sports and equipment for said sports. When they all grow up and sod off and tell me they hate me, I'll be getting one for me, myself, and I.

Tormundsbrow · 18/07/2017 10:31

Dunkling - I was a late driver, would have been my first car. Ended up with a new car and even that was cheaper at 2k!

TeaCake5 · 18/07/2017 10:34

Figaros are vulgar. Yabu.

NooNooMummy · 18/07/2017 10:46

Especially in pink 😄

overmydeadbody · 18/07/2017 10:50

Get one!!!!

Life is too short to drive ugly cars.

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 18/07/2017 12:07

I love them - I want one in mint green but I do too many miles to consider anything but the most reliable of cars Sad

DopeyDazy · 18/07/2017 12:31

Go for it while you can join owners club as well. I wanted a Mitsubushi Delica after being in one in St Lucia and found loads in Uk. Cried when it was scrapped for rust but still have the memories

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 18/07/2017 12:33

I've always wanted one - please let me live vicariously through you! There's a dove grey one near me that I unashamedly covet Envy

Moanyoldcow · 18/07/2017 12:55

They are my dream car. When family children are grown up I'm going to buy one.

Buy it. Go on...

stassyk · 17/06/2018 21:25

NooNooMummy - I'd love an update on how you got on with your Figaro??

trojanpony · 17/06/2018 21:32

I looked at buying one as I loveeeeeeee them 😍
but seriously, they aren’t that cheap so do your research, they need maintenance and are mega rust prone

lucydogz · 17/06/2018 21:38

I used to have a topaz mist (beige) one and I still miss it. They are lovely lovely things. People smile at you when you drive them. They're reliable. And beautiful. But I wouldn't get one if I couldn't keep it under cover. It can be tricky to get tires.

NooNooMummy · 27/06/2018 07:40

Didnt buy one. Was waiting to move house first and see how much cash i had left. And, we finally moved house 3 weeks ago, im still in love with the figaros so watch this space!

(My head is telling me 'No' - Ive no covered parking - in fact, ive no allocated parking - and im still not sure that i can justify having any car.... A figaro would be such fun tho'!)
