to return my jacket and buy it cheaper?!

yellowDahlia · 17/07/2017 17:11

I don't think I can now though :( Bought a fab denim jacket in Next for £40 just about a week before the sale began and now it's down to £16!! I love it and was prepared to pay full price tbh - but I barely wore it twice before it went down to below half price. Tag is clipped but I still have it.

Is there any way I can return/exchange the jacket or do I just suck it up, forget about the price and get on with loving my not at all bargainous jacket??

The code would be exactly the same on the reordered item.

BewareTheUndertoad · 17/07/2017 17:56

I asked because sometimes labels are attached with cord or even string, I don't shop in Next so didn't know what they use.

You could buy another one, carefully remove the tag and fiddle around with it and return the new jacket with the old tag if you could get it back on. It can be done but is it worth the fiddling about? And have you exceeded the returns time?

DotForShort · 17/07/2017 18:01

I have done this with unworn items (bought a new one at the sale price and returned the original item). But you have worn the jacket so it would be unreasonable to attempt this.

BlurryFace · 17/07/2017 18:03

You liked it enough to pay full price so it's not as though you've been conned. Next has hardly done you wrong.Hmm

fuckwitery · 17/07/2017 18:04

Fuck no.

yellowDahlia · 17/07/2017 18:07

Ok, woah. I'm not talking about returning a worn jacket - I'm wondering if there's a way to do this by ordering/exchanging a sale item to get the difference in price. I'm not going to attempt to fiddle with labels - a step too far for me. As I said I love the jacket and was prepared to pay full price, But I genuinely thought it was new stock, I'd never seen it before and I certainly didn't expect a huge discount just a few days later! I wouldn't even have minded at half price but it's even less than that - frustrating!

I might email the company, but I doubt it will come to much. They will have policies for this sort of thing.

Salmotrutta · 17/07/2017 18:13

I wouldn't - it's not right.

It's a bit like someone I know who bought a top, kept the tags on, wore it the next night then returned it and got her money back Hmm

I was appalled when she happily admitted dong this and she went right down in my estimation.

yellowDahlia · 17/07/2017 18:14

Now wishing I'd titled this thread ..to want to return my jacket and buy it cheaper as this is closer to the truth. I'm not going to return a worn item of clothing!!

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 17/07/2017 18:17

But you want to try and get full money back for the jacket you buy at £16 though.

Dishonest.

MGFM · 17/07/2017 18:37

I just went through this with next. I bought a skirt online on thursday. £60. On sat it was £20. It hadnt been delivered so i called and asked if they could refund the difference. No they couldnt so i just bought the skort agakn at £20 and i will be returning the £60 one.

I think if youndontbhave a receipt they only refund the amount it isnon sale for. Or will issue a credit note

BoysofMelody · 17/07/2017 18:38

You obviously liked it and thought it was a fair price when you bought it.
Comparison is the thief of joy and all that!

yellowDahlia · 17/07/2017 18:55

boys thanks for being the voice of reason I was needing to hear! You're right and I'm lucky I can buy it at all for whatever the price. I shall henceforth Get Over It and get on with my life Smile

OP posts:
BoysofMelody · 17/07/2017 18:57

No bother yellow I never look for the prices of things once I've bought them and if I see something I own in a sale, I deliberately avoid looking for a price label.

Shopkinsdoll · 17/07/2017 19:13

I'm mad too, last week bought my daughter some clothes from next. This week they are all half price! 😡😡😡

MrsNozzle · 17/07/2017 19:33

As pp has said, Next tags have all the data on them so you wouldn't be able to buy a new one and swap receipts as this subterfuge would immediately be flagged up on there systems.

However, you should be able to return (together with the tag that fell off) and say that it doesn't fit you. If you don't have the receipt they should issue you with a refund card (like a gift card) for the full amount. Wait a couple of days (or go to another branch) then purchase jacket at reduced price.

So long as it doesn't smell or is dirty in anyway, I can't see a massive problem. We sell clothing that have been tried on week after week by all sorts before it is finally sold!. The shop will be able to reattach the label.

MrsNozzle · 17/07/2017 19:34

their, not there! Blush

crazyspaniellady · 17/07/2017 19:37

Just return it and buy back the same jacket at the sale price, I used to work in next and would do this regularly, as long as it was like the week or two before the sale! (Assuming you bought it in store)

Killerqueen2244 · 17/07/2017 19:39

Next put the sale price in pencil on the label so a few days before the sale you'll know if you're buying something that'll be reduced.

shadey171 · 17/07/2017 19:42

Next usually only refund the sale price not full price if item is now on sale however they will put full amount on store card for you to spend in store later if you ask.

faithinthesound · 17/07/2017 19:44

Speaking as someone who works in retail, no, you cannot return it. You have worn it.

If on Monday the 8th we have a sale, should we call/email everyone who shopped between Monday 1st and Sunday 7th and let them know they should return what they bought and get it cheaper? Of course not. You are essentially asking the store to open their register and hand you £24. It is dishonest, and as others have said, it is fraud.

While I am sympathetic to the poor timing, ultimately, returns are not your legal right unless there is something wrong with the item. Change of mind is at the store's discretion.

faithinthesound · 17/07/2017 19:45

Also I'm kind of frightened and appalled at how many people not only encouraged you to commit fraud, but went into great detail as to how you could do so. I prefer to believe the world is more honest than this thread shows it to be.

newmumFeb17 · 17/07/2017 19:46

Not helpful at all but I bought one of these denim jackets today! So fab! Looking forward to some cooler weather so I can wear it.

Artistic · 17/07/2017 19:54

Recently happened to me. Bought a dress at Monsoon for £90, next week it went down by 30%. Bought another one same size. Took back both & explained to the counter lady, she happily returned the full price one, it was unused but tag removed.

Angelika321 · 17/07/2017 20:23

I had similar with John Lewis. I simply called them up and as I'd bought it online they just refunded me the difference in the full price and sale price.

MrsNozzle · 17/07/2017 20:43

But if you had bought an item at full price that genuinely didn't fit, or was unflattering, and the store's policy was to honour all returns (including change of mind) within a certain time period, then surely you could then buy a new one at the sale price?

Dunno, I just can't get all worked up over this 'fraud'. Store is making a profit, nobody is stealing.
