Daft mistake on my CV - help!

Hi all,

I applied for a couple of jobs last week where the application process asked candidates to submit a cover letter and CV.

I read through my cover letter and CV really carefully before emailing them over for both roles - except I obviously didn't check my CV thoroughly enough 🙄

After reading through my CV last night when I was applying for another job, I've seen that I put my start date for a paid role as '2016 - present' instead of '2015 - present'. Very silly mistake I know.

If I leave the start date on my CV as 2016, it'll look like I wasn't doing anything between 2015 and 2016.

What do you reckon I should do in this case? Is it worth emailing the recruiter to let them know it was a typo? Or should I just leave it and chalk it up to experience... and being much more careful next time??

Thanks everyone!

Leave it on this application. Amend it on your CV though and ensure you copy and paste dates of jobs instead of typing them in next time :)

I'd leave it this time and hope they don't notice

Thanks groupie and bigchris - I really hope they don't notice! If anyone has any further suggestions, please advise :)

I'd just bring it up at the right time in the interview - shows you've spotted the mistake and corrected it - I see cvs all the time I'm with mistakes on - it's easy to do

Speaking as a recruiter, I'd email them.

Looking at dates of employment is the first thing I do when checking out a CV. I would definitely notice, and question it.

It very much depends on the application process. If it's via a recruitment agency then I would call and explain and they should allow you to email in an updated copy. If it's a direct application I would leave it, yes mistakes are made on cvs but I would be put off by someone who is calling before even the interview to explain a mistake they had made because they didn't check, I'd just mention it breifly to explain in the interview.

I do a lot of recruitment and echo advice from HiJenny35. Only thing I would add is to check if the incorrect date impacts on the short-listing criteria e.g. if job required 2 years relevant experience, hence 2015 date becomes more significant and you would need to correct it.
