to think this is not normal?

Is this normal at all ever?

Wake up at 8am. Make pancakes. Get dressed. Take Ds3 to swimming lesson for 9am (only ds3 swimming), then drive ds2 and ds3 to the sweetie shop.

Come home 10.15am and conk out asleep for 40 minutes until 11am.

Get in car at 11am, fall asleep again for two hours. Get to destination. Wake up. Have lunch and behave normally and then drive home at 4pm for two hours, admittedly struggling to stay awake the whole way.

Get home circa 6pm, lie down on bed, watch half an episode of some programme and fall fast asleep again at 6.45pm. Deep snoring sleep.

This is the typical energy levels of h. He has zero energy. Has had for years.

How he keeps down his job, I don't know.

He's been tested for allergies but nothing came up positive. He's on escitalopram but has had this level of sleepiness for years before taking the drug.

Takes supplements including iron. Has a good varied diet. Very little exercise beyond walking dogs twice a week and an hour of karate.

What the hell is wrong with him? If he's lazy then it's certainly extreme laziness.

All he wants to do is sleep. It's like an involuntary need. I can see him fading and struggling to stay awake.

Maybe he's just allergic to me and family life? Smile

Could be CFS/ME. See a GP.

CocoLoco87 · 16/07/2017 20:35

I was going to say about that dr in the house program but someone beat me to it. It was really interesting and the dad in it sounds just like your DH. I can't remember what supplement he needed but it changed his life!

chocolatedragon21 · 17/07/2017 03:14

I'm medicated for my depression, the medicine knocks me out more than the depression sometimes! I can easily sleep all through daylight hours if I didn't have things to do.

I also have a B12 deficiency and if I forget to get my booster then that makes me tired as well. Like PPs said, definitely best for him to go back to his GP.

KickAssAngel · 17/07/2017 03:55

Is he sleeping properly at night? Does he go to bed at a decent time and then sleep right through?

But yes, definitely get him to the GP - something isn't right.

Sprinklestar · 17/07/2017 04:08

Has he had bloods done to check for certain cancers?

mathanxiety · 17/07/2017 04:40

Does he ever take any exercise?

PianoThirty · 17/07/2017 04:41

Ironically I'm having trouble getting to sleep tonight, so I watched that episode of Doctor In The House on BBC iPlayer. The patient's lack of energy was completely cured with a daily B-vitamin supplement (B12, B6, and B9/folate). It contains 400 times the recommended daily intake of B12, so if you're buying for your DH, look for something similar.

It also improved his heart condition and circulation. This remedy really ought to be better known!

e1y1 · 17/07/2017 05:30

Has he been tested for narcolepsy, has his thyroid been tested as that can cause a whole host of issues (I suffer underactive thyroid).

Could be a number of things, but no, it isn't normal.

Gingernaut · 17/07/2017 05:41

Narcolepsy?

greenstripeytop · 17/07/2017 05:43

There's a drug called modafinil for narcolepsy. Can he ask his go about it? Also change his other medication?

Groupie123 · 17/07/2017 06:35

In women this can be chalked up to standalone deficiencies but those are really rare in men. Has he been tested for Cancers/inflammatory/heart/neurological diseases?

winkywinkola · 17/07/2017 09:38

You've given us lots of leads. Thank you very much.

Worth being tested for glandular fever too- I was shattered all the time, blood tests showed that I had had it at some point without knowing, but I had post-viral something or another afterwards which meant that I was worse afterwards than before. Put me off work for 3 weeks, some people are off for months! I was having 3 naps a day, then 2, then 1, now I can cope without but I am still exhausted 85% of the time.

I also have b12 deficiency, and although it does mean that you are tired, it's not normally the falling asleep type for me- more like you've worked a 12 hour day in a physical job, and you haven't got the energy to lift your arms or legs any more.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 17/07/2017 10:45

I have had similar and it was a B vitamin deficiency and anaemia.

Three weeks of high dose B vitamins and iron and started to feel almost human.

Five weeks later felt normal.

Six weeks later and had periods of feeling good! Exercise helps too as does sunlight.

However the bit that doesn't fit is the anger. I was never angry. Did get depressed but it's a vicious circle of feeling depressed about situation and the hopelessness.

Good luck with gp Flowers

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 17/07/2017 10:46

Post viral fatigue KnobJockey? I've had that as a teenager and it's bloody awful. Took months to recover.

Pebbles1989 · 17/07/2017 10:51

It sounds like your DH is sleepy, rather than just tired/fatigued, which is an important distinction. He sounds just like me before I was diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia, which is similar to narcolepsy but doesn't tend to involve falling asleep without warning. It's rare but sounds very much like your DH. I would push your GP for a referral to an overnight sleep study, which is the only thing that can properly diagnose either condition. GPs can be slow to refer but they should do it if pushed. The actual study is a doddle - non-invasive and it will give you answers one way or the others. Good luck.

OuchLegoHurts · 17/07/2017 10:52

Was he like this before he went on the medication? My gut feeling would be that it's the meds.

winkywinkola · 17/07/2017 11:32

No. He's always conked out for as long as I've known him. Would slope off for a nap or just fall asleep on the sofa. Not as bad this though.

What sort of blood tests has he had?

Frouby · 17/07/2017 13:04

My DP was like this. Constantly falling asleep. Then he had a heart attack, 2 stents fitted and ince he recovered was much better.
