Would you use headphones for a 13 month old on a flight

Hi,

Just after some opinions on using headphones for a 13 month old on a flight.
It'll be her first flight in a couple of weeks, only to Spain so not too long.
Obviously I'll take snacks, toys, books etc to keep her occupied but also thinking I might download some kids programs onto the iPad to have just in case and I'm aware the rest of the passengers will not be wanting to listen!

AIBU to consider toddler headphones or is she too too young do you think?
Any recommendations? Thank you!

I think its fine, as long as you check the volume first. Good luck. We're recently back fron the US with our 11m old and had problems at all in the flight. Water Bottle/dummy for take off and landing

RedSandYellowSand · 16/07/2017 13:17

I would if the volume was low enough. But you may find she doesnt want to wear them, and is happy watching without sound.

NorthumbrianGirl · 16/07/2017 13:17

Yes, we used headphones at that age. I doubt the whole plane wants to listen to Peppa Pig! Our dds didn't mind wearing them.

Longtalljosie · 16/07/2017 13:24

Oh goodness yes! Toddler headphones are noise limiting and a godsend on flights. Pre-iplayer we spent £5 on downloading two series of Charlie and Lola. The best spent fiver ever!

Heirhelp · 16/07/2017 13:33

Good luck trying to keep them on. I recommend taking lots of cheap toys that you don't mind losing (finger puppets) and a sticker book.

GottonamechangeNow17 · 16/07/2017 13:41

Oh yes! Save your sanity of hearing Peppa!! ;-) I just brought dd some new headphones; they are on a soft stretch band (like an elastic headband you'd wear to keep fringe out eyes iyswim) and she loves them! Much more comfy than the hard usual headphones! X

Oops, I hit post too soon.

On behalf of all the other plane passengers- thank you for not subjecting them to toddler cartoon noises! Flowers

Thanks everybody!

Sounds like a no brainer, I shall get looking now!

There are several brands made for little kids.

Tinyphones are the ones we had.

Also, consider wireless if you think she will either chew or strangle

Sirzy · 16/07/2017 14:41

No headphones = nothing that makes noise on the tablet.

Ds has a pair of kids headphones from argos cost about £10 and they are great.

NoWittyNamesAvailable · 16/07/2017 14:45

I have headfoams for my ds's. You can get them in Argos, they are volume limited to 85db and wireless.

kaytee87 · 16/07/2017 14:47

My 1yo would just take them off. I reckon most babies / toddlers are happy to watch without sound.

MummaGiles · 16/07/2017 14:48

Toddler headphones, or to be honest just let her watch with the sound off. DS has always been happy to do that.

Rinkidink · 16/07/2017 14:51

Yes I think she'll be happy to watch without sound

Oysterbabe · 16/07/2017 14:57

DD would have kept them on for all of 5 seconds.

user14809873 · 16/07/2017 17:32

When my DD was 16 months, we had a two hour flight. She didn't keep them on. I figured the (quiet) sound of Peppa pig would be preferable to a noisy small person & no one around us minded! She wears them now she's older though, I bought JVC kids ones as the volume is limited so can't hurt their ears.

Caterina99 · 16/07/2017 18:31

DS wouldn't wear them at that age. Am hoping he will when we fly next - he'll be about 2.5.

However the plane is so noisy anyway that it didn't seem to make any difference having the sound on very low on his videos. I could barely hear it so I doubt anyone near us could.

SilverBirchTree · 17/07/2017 05:19

PP, I think parents get so used to their children's annoying cartoon noises they tune them out. Your fellow passangers are not so fortunate! Please make your child's use of tablets/phones in a public place conditional on the use of headphones/ silent setting.

Peppa pig is especially grating.
