Clean oven in a sale house

If you were buying a house, would you look in the oven? Selling our house and it's a lovely range cooker I have said I will sell with the house if needs must.

But I've been told no one would bother checking the over, it only took 5mins to get it sparkling but apparently that was a waste of time.

Do you mean clean it for viewings or once you've sold? Do both - especially if it is in the particulars as included. Someone will look inside it if you don't, guaranteed.

greendale17 · 15/07/2017 19:33

I would definitely get it cleaned. We ended up chucking out the oven when we brought our house- I don't it had been cleaned since it was bought

MeltorPeltor · 15/07/2017 19:35

I've done it! But I was told it was a waste of my time. I keep my cooker in tip top condition so it didn't take long as I assume that looking in the oven would be a fairly standard thing.

Wait, in the 8 minutes between your posts?

And you thought you should ask MN about a 5 min job?! Why Confused?

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 15/07/2017 19:43

I am SO confused.

MeltorPeltor · 15/07/2017 19:44

I did it earlier today and it took 5 mins, a relative stood over me telling me it was a waste of time as no one would look in the oven.

in fact I've cleaned an entire house today, so clean now I don't want to sell it 😂

cheshire a 5 minute job? If you can clean my oven in 5 mins you can have my house! Grin

One of the best places to see what the state of a house will be when you move in - look in the oven, and the microwave, behind the sink and toilet in the bathroom and behind the bed headboard and any chest of drawers in the bedroom.

(my sis is an estate agent and says looking in those places can show you in 5 minutes exactly what state of cleanliness and repair the house is in)

Sparklingbrook · 15/07/2017 20:04

I never looked in the oven when I looked around a house. Nor did I run the taps or flush the loo as lots of Mumsnetters seem to deem essential to check water pressure or something.

ConstanceCraving · 15/07/2017 20:18

I always cleaned the hob before viewings but not inside.

Socksey · 15/07/2017 20:28

Lol.... your sis would hate my house.... scrubbed clean but would fail her test because my solid walnut drawers are too heavy to move.... btw toilet immaculate as it's off the kitchen... under the sofa is probably a better place to check as more movable if the house is big enough to move the sofa around...

coconuttella · 15/07/2017 20:50

Would anyone not buy a house because the oven wasn't clean? If not, why bother!

PhilODox · 15/07/2017 20:51

What Lottie said!Grin

Sparklingbrook · 15/07/2017 20:53

Exactly coconut if a dirty oven is a deal breaker you have issues really.

'It's my dream home, it's perfect in every way. But that dirty oven means I will not be putting an offer in. Not a chance.'

All done! Polishes halo. Any more tips?

japonicaleaf · 15/07/2017 20:54

It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but it takes more than 5 minutes to clean an oven surely? At least 15, even if it's not particularly grimy.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/07/2017 20:56

How do you clean an oven in 5 minutes?

Ecureuil · 15/07/2017 20:56

I didn't look in any of those places. TBH I'm not buying a house for its cleanliness! I would always clean it myself when I moved in anyway.

Sparklingbrook · 15/07/2017 20:57

Me too. I would clean everything on moving in.

Peachesandcream15 · 15/07/2017 20:59

Ha! I actually looked in the oven when I viewed the home I'm currently living in. Good job as well, it was disgusting. As was the rest of the house. But at least I was forewarned! We knew the house hadn't been looked after. We still bought it.

BeyondThePage · 15/07/2017 20:59

Cleanliness gives you a few pointers to the attitude of the owner though. A mucky house is unlikely to have had regular maintenance (unless rented).

Ecureuil · 15/07/2017 21:02

Aside from the cleanliness, you can tell whether a house has had regular maintenance anyway IMO. I would judge those things separately.

Sparklingbrook · 15/07/2017 21:03

So if the oven is dirty it's a sign that the rest of the house is poorly maintained. Okaaay.

BenLui · 15/07/2017 21:06

I agree with Beyond the cleanliness of the house points to how well it has been maintained.

I didn't even look at the upstairs if a house with a shoddy ceiling repair on the living room ceiling. If they did a slap dash job in the bits you can see, imagine what's hidden.

Sparklingbrook · 15/07/2017 21:07

Maybe they just do a lot of cooking...
