to think this isn't a date?

4 year old boy out to the local soft play with 4 year old female friend.
Parents of boy calling this a date, and saying how they'll have trouble when he's older.
Surely this isn't a date? It's 2 friends going to play together? They're only calling it a date because it's a boy and a girl?

They are 4 years old, so obviously the other parents know it isn't really a date. It's been said as a joke, maybe because they think it's sweet. You're looking too much into it.

BasketOfDeplorables · 15/07/2017 18:46

It is a joke, but it's probably not very funny to the kids. They'll probably go from it going over their heads to feeling uncomfortable pretty quickly.

My best friend from about 5 onwards was a boy, and we were teased relentlessly for it.

Really makes me cringe! A 3 year old girl was called a hussy by her own mum the other day at my daughters nursery, because she's friends with twin boys Confused

firenze that's awful!
I had loads of male friends all the way through school and it wasn't a thing then.
They wouldn't be calling it a date if it was with a boy, just because it's a girl.

Maybe the boy has told his parents he has a crush on her?

GreenTulips · 15/07/2017 20:27

But they're laughing at their own kids! It's not funny - just cringe!! I've met a few of these mums - I can picture them now!! All BFF HUN types

Beeziekn33ze · 15/07/2017 20:32

Silly parents! 🙄

Allthewaves · 15/07/2017 20:53

Yuk. Two of mums at school have done this with their kids since pre school. Call each other kid future wife, future husband. Put posts on fb. It weirds me out

WorraLiberty · 15/07/2017 20:54

Love the flowers drip-feed! Grin Thanks Grin Thanks

VeryButchyRestingFace · 15/07/2017 20:57

You'd have hated my parents then, OP. Apparently I was such an incorrigible flirt at the age of 2/3, my father used to joke they'd have to put me on the pill if I was still like that at 12. Halo

JennyBlueWren · 15/07/2017 21:33

I wouldn't be refering to it as a date but I do refer to my friend's daughter (2) as being my future daughter-in-law and she refers to my son as her son-in-law. This is mostly to wind up my DH though!

Nikephorus · 16/07/2017 13:02

It is strange that the mention wasn't made about the flowers until everyone said it was just a joke. If I was more cynical I'd wonder if half the drip-feeds on here weren't made up to try and sway opinion...
